jjf28 -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: I think we need a few more terms for it. Anyone have a few more lying around to contribute?
that's not basic API design that's JavaBeans
[2016-7-18. : 9:47 pm]
Moose -- Nobody's really challenging that point, though.
[2016-7-18. : 9:47 pm]
Dem0n -- I wish I hadn't replayed it over the past few weeks. Last time I played it when I was like 13, I thought it was good, and I would've preferred to keep it that way ROFL
[2016-7-18. : 9:47 pm]
Dem0n -- lil-Inferno
lil-Inferno shouted: Mini Moose 2707 No, cuz according to him there have never been a good game ever LMAO
tbh he's right when saying SC's campaign writing and gameplay are awful LMAO
[2016-7-18. : 9:43 pm]
Dem0n -- w/e
[2016-7-18. : 9:42 pm]
lil-Inferno -- TRU
[2016-7-18. : 9:41 pm]
lil-Inferno -- LMAO
[2016-7-18. : 9:41 pm]
Moose -- lil-Inferno
lil-Inferno shouted: Generalpie And then I say LMAO
You would've done that independent of any sequence of events.
[2016-7-18. : 9:40 pm]
lil-Inferno -- Generalpie
Generalpie shouted: And then I'll yawn and flop over at some point
And then I say LMAO
[2016-7-18. : 9:35 pm]
Moose -- TBH, still think Cecil is just mad at shitty programmers who adhere to paradigms without thinking, resulting in bad code. Which I'd speculate the people who invented OOP would advise against anyway.
[2016-7-18. : 9:32 pm]
Generalpie -- Neat
[2016-7-18. : 9:31 pm]
Moose -- I did some profiling of my work code. The getters were .7% of execution time, rounded up. Some of the objects even used inheritance.
[2016-7-18. : 9:31 pm]
Generalpie -- Happy Gilmore
[2016-7-18. : 9:31 pm]
Generalpie -- Voodoo
[2016-7-18. : 9:31 pm]
Generalpie -- Black magic
[2016-7-18. : 9:30 pm]
Moose -- I think we need a few more terms for it. Anyone have a few more lying around to contribute?
[2016-7-18. : 9:29 pm]
CecilSunkure -- Roy
Roy shouted: CecilSunkure That's not OOP; that's scoping. And it's useful if your internal implementation changes that you don't break anything using it thanks to maintaining a consistent public interface.
Nope that's basic API design, which requires actual thought unlike OOP. And yes, regrettably, my example was basic OOP methodology.
[2016-7-18. : 9:29 pm]
CecilSunkure -- beep
[2016-7-18. : 9:26 pm]
Moose -- Which is whatever, you need help. It's only a matter of time until you flop over on the highway or in front of a train or something. We care about you, Generalpie, and we don't want to see you get hurt.
[2016-7-18. : 9:24 pm]
Generalpie -- I blame Sacrieur.
[2016-7-18. : 9:24 pm]
Generalpie -- :3
[2016-7-18. : 9:22 pm]
Moose -- To be honest, family, you should see a doctor about all of that, it's been years.
[2016-7-18. : 9:22 pm]
Moose -- Getting ahead of yourself there.
[2016-7-18. : 9:22 pm]
*Generalpie yawns and flops over*
[2016-7-18. : 9:22 pm]
Generalpie -- And then I'll yawn and flop over at some point
[2016-7-18. : 9:21 pm]
Generalpie -- And then Moose will say "Shaking my head, in my opinion"
[2016-7-18. : 9:21 pm]
Generalpie -- And then Oh_Man will link his tuxedo build.
[2016-7-18. : 9:21 pm]
Generalpie -- Yeah. He'll pull out his edgy fallacious argument that all games are shit so it doesn't exist, then link his youtube channel
[2016-7-18. : 9:19 pm]
lil-Inferno -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Pr0nogo Is there an RTS with similar or more complexity (ex 3-race balance) that compares to SCBW where balance is independent of the maps you play on?
No, cuz according to him there have never been a good game ever LMAO
[2016-7-18. : 9:12 pm]
Moose -- Because either there is, in which case, cool, we can try it or whatever, or he was being dishonest about the trade-offs and shortcomings of whatever RTSes there are with map-independent balance.
[2016-7-18. : 9:05 pm]
Moose -- Ahli
Ahli shouted: Maps are always tied to the balance unless the 3+ races do not differ much.
I would assume so, I want to say if Pr0nogo can provide one where the races are indeed significantly different but balance is still independent of the map.
[2016-7-18. : 9:02 pm]
Vrael -- just 2.7 has better support for some packages and a few older details
[2016-7-18. : 9:02 pm]
Vrael -- like I said, 2.7 and 3.4 are 'almost' exactly the same
[2016-7-18. : 9:01 pm]
Vrael -- yeah I use 2.7
[2016-7-18. : 9:01 pm]
Ahli -- Vrael
Vrael shouted: 2.7 and 3 are approximately the same with a few minor (and one or two major) details. 2.7 is still around because some packages havent been sufficiently updated to 3 yet
we just used 2.7 in a project at university =/
[2016-7-18. : 8:59 pm]
Ahli -- Maps are always tied to the balance unless the 3+ races do not differ much.
[2016-7-18. : 8:36 pm]
Moose -- Pr0nogo
Pr0nogo shouted: scbw wasn't great, its multiplayer had to be balanced through maps because of shit game design and crippling bugs like hydralisks failing to accept orders exist because their coders didn't even know how to programme their game properly
Is there an RTS with similar or more complexity (ex 3-race balance) that compares to SCBW where balance is independent of the maps you play on?
[2016-7-18. : 8:36 pm]
Dem0n -- tabs >___>
[2016-7-18. : 8:35 pm]
Generalpie -- Spaces.
[2016-7-18. : 8:35 pm]
Generalpie -- UGH
[2016-7-18. : 8:32 pm]
Roy -- "Spaces are the preferred indentation method." Well, well, well, looks like Python is on the right side of history, at least.
[2016-7-18. : 8:29 pm]
jjf28 -- get yo upgrade dates in line python!
[2016-7-18. : 8:29 pm]
Vrael -- u h8rz
[2016-7-18. : 8:29 pm]
Generalpie -- I dislike having to have both versions installed. I just avoid python applications in general nowadays because a lot of times I would have to manually point applications to the right versions.
[2016-7-18. : 8:28 pm]
Roy -- That conversation definitely went down.
[2016-7-18. : 8:28 pm]
Roy -- I was talking about how I was trying to get something that had a Python dependency to work, and it refused. The issue was related to having the wrong version of Python.
[2016-7-18. : 8:27 pm]
Vrael -- yeah probably between me and roy too lol
[2016-7-18. : 8:27 pm]
Roy -- https://www.xkcd.com/353/
[2016-7-18. : 8:27 pm]
Dem0n -- This 2.7 vs 3 conversation has definitely happened before lmao
[2016-7-18. : 8:26 pm]
Vrael -- basically
[2016-7-18. : 8:26 pm]
Roy -- Isn't it that some pretty popular packages haven't been updated, and so a lot of projects choose 2.7 just for the sake of compatibility?
[2016-7-18. : 8:26 pm]
Vrael -- biggest difference is the string/byte stream/unicode thingy
[2016-7-18. : 8:26 pm]
jjf28 -- Roy
Roy shouted: I tried to install it and gave up because I don't know the difference between 2.7 and 3 and why they're both in circulation, and that makes me angry!
you can't just have characters announce how they feel!
[2016-7-18. : 8:25 pm]
Vrael -- 2.7 and 3 are approximately the same with a few minor (and one or two major) details. 2.7 is still around because some packages havent been sufficiently updated to 3 yet
[2016-7-18. : 8:25 pm]
jjf28 -- :rage:
[2016-7-18. : 8:25 pm]
Roy -- I have a friend who picked up both Scala and Go.
[2016-7-18. : 8:25 pm]
Roy -- I tried to install it and gave up because I don't know the difference between 2.7 and 3 and why they're both in circulation, and that makes me angry!
[2016-7-18. : 8:25 pm]
Vrael -- Just do me a favor and don't pick up Scala, Julia, or Go. Those python-wannabe-bitches
[2016-7-18. : 8:24 pm]
jjf28 -- I prefer Sapphire
[2016-7-18. : 8:24 pm]
Vrael -- How dare you vehemently oppose my language of choice despite probably having completely different uses for coding than me. Completely ridiculous.
[2016-7-18. : 8:24 pm]
Dem0n -- Use Ruby instead lel
[2016-7-18. : 8:24 pm]
Roy -- C# is boring enterprise stuff, kinda like Java.
[2016-7-18. : 8:23 pm]
Roy -- I've been meaning to convert over to Python one day. Right now I'm vehemently against it, but it's definitely a cool language that can persuade me once I actually give it a shot.
[2016-7-18. : 8:23 pm]
Vrael -- maybe when his primary tasks involve scientific computing like me and not embedded design or whatever the heck he does with his C# nonsense
[2016-7-18. : 8:22 pm]
Vrael -- I'll convert Roy to python someday
[2016-7-18. : 8:22 pm]
*Roy checks the implementation and sees that it's empty*
[2016-7-18. : 8:21 pm]
Vrael -- What does it do? It does something.
[2016-7-18. : 8:21 pm]
Vrael -- Best code: DoSomething()
[2016-7-18. : 8:21 pm]
Roy -- I'm not a fan of boilerplate code in general. The best code is no code.
[2016-7-18. : 8:20 pm]
Dem0n -- I personally don't mind writing small, 3-line methods for getters/setters
