[2016-11-10. : 10:46 pm]
Lanthanide -- and, I would be saying the same thing if Clinton had won, too
[2016-11-10. : 10:46 pm]
Lanthanide -- if you put this on the level of grief as a pet dying, which I don't think is an unfair comparison, then is it appropriate to give compassionate consideration for exams that are close to the election date
[2016-11-10. : 10:44 pm]
Moose -- Indeed, so I don't think we really disagree.
[2016-11-10. : 10:44 pm]
Lanthanide -- Roy
Roy shouted: Lanthanide He should call it "Don't ask, don't tell".
it's the defence of family values act or some-such bullshit
[2016-11-10. : 10:44 pm]
CecilSunkure -- and judgement calls can be critiqued. That's only fair
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Lanthanide -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Btu feeling worse about their pet dying versus their parents?
ah, yeah, I never said that, nor even implied it
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
CecilSunkure -- Like Moose pointed out the idea of a spectrum, which implies judgement calls on whether or not to issue "compassion"
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Roy -- Lanthanide
Lanthanide shouted: you're still allowed to be gay, but if you talk about it, that's bad
He should call it "Don't ask, don't tell".
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Moose -- Like, there's probably some outliers who do, but I don't think that's the majority.
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Lanthanide -- people fear that it will
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
CecilSunkure -- I don't think emotional responses to Trump getting elected deserve compassion, for the majority of cases, including the Yale thing
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Lanthanide -- nothing seriously bad has actually happened yet
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Moose -- Btu feeling worse about their pet dying versus their parents?
[2016-11-10. : 10:43 pm]
Lanthanide -- and probably that's not really a bad analogy for this type of grief
[2016-11-10. : 10:42 pm]
Lanthanide -- I've heard of people getting compassionate consideration for when a pet dies
[2016-11-10. : 10:42 pm]
Lanthanide -- for most, it won't be that bad, but it's still enough to interfere with study and exams
[2016-11-10. : 10:42 pm]
Moose -- "is an emotional loss equivalent to losing a parent" like, this part
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Lanthanide -- for some people, it will be like that
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Moose -- Conditional on feeling as bad as a parent spouse dying, not on feeling anything.
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Lanthanide -- implying they're defective for having those feelings
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Moose -- Like, this a spectrum: shouldn't feel shit ----------- me ---------- literally worst thing ever
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Lanthanide -- you said "the issue might be you."
[2016-11-10. : 10:41 pm]
Moose -- Lanthanide
Lanthanide shouted: but that doesn't mean their feeling aren't gennuine, or that there's something wrong with them as human beings
I'm not saying their feelings aren't genuine.
[2016-11-10. : 10:40 pm]
Moose -- Lanthanide
Lanthanide shouted: well you're disagreeing with psychology of humans, in that case
Like Holmes and Rahe?
[2016-11-10. : 10:40 pm]
CecilSunkure -- Majority of your world maybe, but not mine
[2016-11-10. : 10:40 pm]
Lanthanide -- well the majority of the world disagrees with you Cecil
[2016-11-10. : 10:39 pm]
Lanthanide -- but that doesn't mean their feeling aren't gennuine, or that there's something wrong with them as human beings
[2016-11-10. : 10:39 pm]
CecilSunkure -- I don't think his comments are racist or bigoted, and think it's silly to say they are
[2016-11-10. : 10:39 pm]
Lanthanide -- are people over-reacting, will Trump be as bad as the fear? probably, and probably not
[2016-11-10. : 10:39 pm]
Lanthanide -- well you're disagreeing with psychology of humans, in that case
[2016-11-10. : 10:39 pm]
Moose -- Well, I disagree but I can't tell people how to feel, so that's that.
[2016-11-10. : 10:37 pm]
Lanthanide -- Trump's racist and biggotted comments are likely to result in the same situation in the US - even if no laws change, many people in public will feel like they can act with impunity
[2016-11-10. : 10:37 pm]
Lanthanide -- also in Russia, the police etc themselves are homophobic, so don't really care about the crimes being committed, which perpetuates the whole situation
[2016-11-10. : 10:36 pm]
Lanthanide -- it's not that different than a family member dying
[2016-11-10. : 10:36 pm]
Lanthanide -- it's called grieving
[2016-11-10. : 10:36 pm]
Lanthanide -- of course, and people are upset at the real prospect that they are going to happen now
[2016-11-10. : 10:35 pm]
Moose -- Lanthanide
Lanthanide shouted: you might think "ok, fine, what's wrong with that?"
No, to be clear, I think all of these are bad things that should not be done.
[2016-11-10. : 10:35 pm]
Lanthanide -- even though being gay is still perfectly legal in Russia
[2016-11-10. : 10:35 pm]
Lanthanide -- bacause a lot of members of public now think they have the right to be homophobic and attack people who are gay
[2016-11-10. : 10:35 pm]
Lanthanide -- except that hate crimes in Russia have risen hugely as a result of that policy change
[2016-11-10. : 10:35 pm]
Lanthanide -- you might think "ok, fine, what's wrong with that?"
[2016-11-10. : 10:34 pm]
Lanthanide -- they want to protect family values
[2016-11-10. : 10:34 pm]
Lanthanide -- you're still allowed to be gay, but if you talk about it, that's bad
[2016-11-10. : 10:34 pm]
Lanthanide -- in Russia, Putin passed laws outlawing "homosexual propaganda"
[2016-11-10. : 10:34 pm]
Lanthanide -- also, the tenor of the political leadership in the country, affects how people behave on a day to day basis
[2016-11-10. : 10:34 pm]
Lanthanide -- for a lot of people, those are very important rights that they are now facing losing
[2016-11-10. : 10:33 pm]
Lanthanide -- and since he's going to likely have 2-3 supreme court noms, there's a very good chance he will succeed
[2016-11-10. : 10:33 pm]
Lanthanide -- Trump has said he'll try and repeal marriage equality, and get Woe v Wade appealed
[2016-11-10. : 10:33 pm]
Lanthanide -- ah, no
[2016-11-10. : 10:28 pm]
Moose -- And I know that in 2016, it's automatically heresy to question people's feelings or whatever, but if your candidate losing the election is an emotional loss equivalent to losing a parent, (assuming your parents were reasonably not-shitty, of course) the issue might be you.
[2016-11-10. : 10:12 pm]
Moose -- If I were in that class, I'd be embarrassed for my fellow students. But to each his own, I suppose.
[2016-11-10. : 10:12 pm]
Moose -- WRONG TOPIC LMAO
[2016-11-10. : 10:12 pm]
Moose -- Oh wait
[2016-11-10. : 10:11 pm]
Moose -- But is it racist?
[2016-11-10. : 10:11 pm]
Lanthanide -- if it's 1+ week away from the election, then forget it
[2016-11-10. : 10:11 pm]
Lanthanide -- depends on the proximity to the election, though
[2016-11-10. : 10:10 pm]
Lanthanide -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Also, according to the news, a professor at Yale made a midterm optional because of the election results. That's pathetic.
seems perfectly reasonable to me, a lot of people are very upset about the Trump presidency and what it might mean, based on what he's been saying. I don't see it as any different than compassionate consideration if a family member dies etc
[2016-11-10. : 9:31 pm]
CecilSunkure -- oh god
[2016-11-10. : 9:30 pm]
NudeRaider -- CecilSunkure
CecilSunkure shouted: how about that muslim ban, eh?
don't worry, there's still a way out ... http://i.imgur.com/dp3DxNv.mp4
[2016-11-10. : 9:29 pm]
CecilSunkure -- But ya, still think it's not acceptable.
[2016-11-10. : 9:28 pm]
CecilSunkure -- So to me it totally makes sense. They collectively had their feelings hurt by the Trump election, and take action to feel better
[2016-11-10. : 9:28 pm]
CecilSunkure -- The entire SJW culture more or less originated from schools like Yale
[2016-11-10. : 9:27 pm]
CecilSunkure -- Public education and higher education sectors are nearly unanimously liberal
[2016-11-10. : 9:26 pm]
Moose -- Also, according to the news, a professor at Yale made a midterm optional because of the election results. That's pathetic.
[2016-11-10. : 9:16 pm]
CecilSunkure -- But not too much so it was OK
[2016-11-10. : 9:16 pm]
CecilSunkure -- they definitely used some OOP
[2016-11-10. : 9:15 pm]
Moose -- CecilSunkure
CecilSunkure shouted: I betcha they will just take the old code base and make certain bits more modern. Like graphics, resolution, bnet client stuff, etc.
Probably add OO, smh
[2016-11-10. : 9:15 pm]
CecilSunkure -- I betcha they will just take the old code base and make certain bits more modern. Like graphics, resolution, bnet client stuff, etc.
[2016-11-10. : 9:15 pm]
Moose -- The one in Chicago, that is.
