I already stated that it's not the theme devilesk, it's the stupid tileset rule... because we all know people in deserts don't get winter also >.>!
I was going to make a map, and probably still will, but i'm just annoyed that you're suffocating my creativity >.>!

It must be on the arctic tileset? What if I want to be creative and have winter in space? I don't believe it snows up there.

Just kidding. I'm not doing that, but making it a requirement to be on the ice tileset is restrictive. Someone might be really creative and have winter in the desert work somehow.

Dungeon Master

Really though. What if you wanted to make a map where you had to collect acorns to prepare for winter? It wouldn't necessarily have to be on the Ice tileset, but it would very much fit the theme of 'winter'.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

file size limits?
All other contests had one I think. But I don't really care how big the map will be as long as it is singleplayer. Bad that I plan to make a multiplayer map...

Oct 4 2008, 6:47 pm InsolubleFluff Post #90

See I had idea's that would of been tileset or ashworld just because it adds to the lul of it, but since it HAS to be the arctic tileset there goes creativity out the window, and why are we limited to two people, I never understood this, it doesn't get exponentially easier with more people, there's a lot more communication and generally you will end up with a bigger product meaning it should be rated slightly harder, three people is as advantageous as two people, so I dislike that rule a bit as well, but i'm willing to let it slide, just I find it hard to believe that the sahara desert has never had a winter...

Teraunce, the ^

not being forced to do parallell clears some things up...starts thinking up ideas for the remake of a map he once had and made but was long lost...hell...all i can remember is the basic story and the map sucked...made it before i learned of other SC editors.
just joking

Predator of Bed Chambers

Yes indeed it does block alot of ideas. Since you could somewhat have a winter type map in space like your homeworld is on an " Asteroid " or something that pretty much like icy winterish place. Could even say it a Desert winter, where it arid land of desolated desertish winter meh w/e. Random thoughts on my behalf. Already somewhat thought out my storyline based on Arctic terrain / winter themed so kinda set just need to do terrain /; triggers n the map. fun fun fun.

If all else fails, crowbar the fucker

Oct 4 2008, 7:51 pm Kaias Post #94

I'm for parallel/dimensional, I didn't see this thread so I'll just copy the PM I sent to pigy_g on it so you all can see my reasoning:

Myself and many others I've talked to feel that a Parallel/Dimension theme would leave us with a greater field of creativity than a winter one. It's an idea not often touched upon, and consequently there is a lot of freedom and originality to be had there.
The problem with the Winter theme is that while there is sure to be maps very different in function and dynamic, they will all hold a similar feel in having the same tileset. Winter is also too broad, anyone could make any map and just tailor it to winter. There are virtually no parameters to what we can do (except that it is restricted to a similar feel), which makes it very difficult for people to home in on a specific thesis for their map.
We are skilled mappers here and tackling a more competitive theme gives us greater purpose.

It doesn't have to be snowy everywhere in the world, isn't it like Los Angelas or w.e where it has only snowed like a handful of times?

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
