Hi guys, I played a map a while ago that had a spell effect where it would slow your unit down much like ensnare does. Your unit is hit by the spell effect and gets "ensnared". This pretty much sums it all up. I'm wondering how he/she did this? Thanks in advance guys.

If you constantly move a burrowed Zerg unit under another unit, it slows down the unit. I don't know why, but it does. It must be done with hyper triggers to be effective.

The unit collides with the burrowed unit and ceases to move during the frame in which it collided. As hyper triggers run every 2nd frame at fastest, this prevents us from completely halting a unit using this method.

Just to clarify from the OP: the spell effect you saw in the other map just slowed the (ground) units down, yes? It did not actually cast ensnare with full graphics and detection ability?

ImagoDeo, I'm gona go try that right now.

Lanthanide, yes, it slowed down a ground unit with no graphical effects.

Edit: I had a go at trying to re-produce the effect but only managed to get it to work the very first time it's triggered. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

you didn't preserve your hyper triggers, and the IT wants to unburrow to attack the egg. Use p9-12 or a neutral computer.

Or instead of moving, you can create and remove air units at the desired unit's location.

Or be like the Dark Mage's l3 curse in Temple Siege, where it rapidly spawns/kills queens on the enemy heros.

Of course you would say something like that lol.

What happens if you do both?

I'm pretty sure there are burrowed units being created//removed during the spell.

Hi guys, so I succeeded in making the effect using P2 and allying him with P1 so the AI doesn't screw around. But, when I tried using the same triggers with P9 it doesn't work at all. Am I missing something for P9? The move trigger won't activate at all.

P9+ can't own triggers. Have the trigger owned by one of P1-8 and let them move the P9 units.

i was just wondering... is there any way to actually force a computer player's queen to ensnare?

Metal, you really should learn to use the wiki. :<_<:

Ahh thank you NudeRaider, did not know that. Effect works like a charm now. :)

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
