Shared Control...?

A while ago, I was thinking that the Shared Unit Control in WarCraft 3 would be an awesome feature in StarCraft. If your unfamiliar with Shared Unit Control, basicly it allows a player to go into the "Allies" menu and check a box allowing the other player to control all your units and building at the same time as you. This is usually used in Maze maps(equal to Bounds in StarCraft).

Im curious if anyone has any ideas on this, the only thing I could think of would be switching between the players very quickly, however, Im not sure whether or not you'd have time to input commands. And Im pretty sure once you give, any units that were training or upgrades upgrading are removed. Any thoughts?

Only in Team Melee.

Switching between players would not work, as units are deselected, sorry, but I really see no way of doing this.

EDIT:
Actually... I just had a thought. What if you stack units, and then if one unit moves you move the other unit on top of it, that way each player owns a unit, I know it wouldn't work too well, but it's about as close as you can get other than Team Melee..

Probably with single units this could be done using EUDs to detect if the player selected the unit and give it to that player. However I'm not quite sure if this could be done because I'm unfamiliar with EUDs.

If we had EUD actions, I bet you could do it.

Without EUD actions it's impossible for two players to control the same unit simultaneously in a UMS map. All you could do is add a beacon or something to transfer ownership from one player to another when desired...

?????

Why can't one use EUD select detection (instead of the beacon for example) to transfer the unit from one player to another?

Unless you only had one of that unit type or a location following that one unit around you wouldn't know where the unit is to be given.

NudeRaider -- Neither did I. ;) I tried to link a Blizzard source but I think they eventually took it down for some reason, so I was happy to find it here. :)

NudeRaider shouted: DarkenedFantasies yeah, that much is obvious, but I can only check if that's actualy the case (and not just the size rounded down) if I download the file.
didn't expect to see a post from myself years ago actually being helpful https://staredit.net/topic/18852/#2

DarkenedFantasies shouted: As for the 0 bytes zip, you just rename the file extension of any 0-byte file to zip. I however had to make it 1 byte because SEN throws an error when uploading a 0 bytes file.

NudeRaider -- Oh and that's on Win 10 as well, but a IoT Enterprise LTSC edition which (I think?) misses the latest feature upgrades, despite being current on security updates.

DarkenedFantasies shouted: On Win10, when I right-click > New > Compressed Folder, I get the 22B file that I had. This is only the EOCD header, with the magic number 0x06054B50 and the remaining 18 bytes are null.
oof, so much to unpack for such a seemingly insignificant topic. Firstly I tried with 7zip. Choosing the default right click > 7zip > Send to "filename.zip" on an empty file creates a 156 Bytes .zip. 82 Bytes I only get via custom options. Secondly I don't have > New > Compressed folder, I have Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder. When I do that Windows refuses to create it because it's empty. If I do it on a 0 Byte file the resulting zip is 140 Bytes. Under rightclick -> new (on the empty area of a folder) I can only create a (regular) folder and several file types like text, spreadsheet, image etc. but not zip.
