[2017-10-04. : 7:23 pm] Ashamed -- both machines are at my house... I just use the other server for my shit.. Dotn want his app on it[2017-10-04. : 7:22 pm] NudeRaider -- k. so the answer is "you're too lazy to put some of your hosting stuff on the server because it's simply more convenient to you to have it locally (+ the fact that leaving it running is no big deal)" gotcha ![]() [2017-10-04. : 7:21 pm] Ashamed -- I am a systems/automation engineer - and I got two extra free lance clients last month so it was a very good month.[2017-10-04. : 7:21 pm] Ashamed -- I said we had a similer story.. I had worked at office depot after dropping out of school lol[2017-10-04. : 7:21 pm] Ashamed -- I dont sell services though.. like im not having this guy pay me.. its just an extra feature with working with me... He doesn't need to figure all that shit out y et.[2017-10-04. : 7:20 pm] m.0.n.3.y -- AshamedAshamed shouted: Excalibur Keep at in Excalibur. I have a similar story. I am a few years ahead of you though. I am almost 28. In Sep I brought in 15k. It was pretty crazy. how tf did you make 15k in one month working at office depot? unless, again, if you live in an extremely high cost of living area[2017-10-04. : 7:20 pm] Ashamed -- I get to keep more of the code closer to home before the end of the project. Keeps me in more control.[2017-10-04. : 7:20 pm] Ashamed -- because I use it still ... like right now I am letting a client use the dev web server I am making him an application and am just hosting it on that.[2017-10-04. : 7:19 pm] Ashamed -- I also have a nas that is related to the services... but it doesn't do any processing shit.[2017-10-04. : 7:19 pm] Ashamed -- the one I could prob turn off.. but I still use it and jsut dont ha[2017-10-04. : 7:17 pm] NudeRaider -- I mean *some* people are living at their workspace or so I've heard ... glad you're not one of them ![]() [2017-10-04. : 7:16 pm] Ashamed -- For instance my livingroom machine / My main server. Is used for Media and the brunt of my work power. Its a 1700x Water cooled/64gb micro desktop.[2017-10-04. : 7:15 pm] Ashamed -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Ashamed Ashamed huh? Not sure I understand. Why is your client machine running hyper-V? Unless you mean the configuration console? But that doesn't need to be running to keep the servers up. Hyper-V should be running on the server's hardware. Nude I live at home and run small services from my house that are mostly related to me and or my family. Every once in a while I will let a client I am working with use it for a project we are working on... but I do not have seperate machines. I build very strong computers that are multi-purposed they are running hypver-v because they are the machines running the servers.[2017-10-04. : 7:14 pm] NudeRaider -- AshamedAshamed shouted: because its hyper-v...... Thus why my media server does most of the work. Also I hyper-v everything onto of unix[2017-10-04. : 7:08 pm] NudeRaider -- Ya just can't be only "you" loading several servers at once, which is why I ask. I still can't shake the feeling that one or two physical machines should be able to handle it performance wise and if you want dedicated servers for each task, use virtualization.[2017-10-04. : 7:05 pm] Ashamed -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: What are you doing to have several server's worth of load :wftage: My media server is the biggest - I let everyone use my plex ha.[2017-10-04. : 7:04 pm] NudeRaider -- What are you doing to have several server's worth of load :wftage:[2017-10-04. : 7:04 pm] Ashamed -- My living room machine does the most of my server stuff, but my desktop still does my dev stuff. I have a client using it right now matter of fact.[2017-10-04. : 7:03 pm] NudeRaider -- obviously my reply doesn't regard that part. It was about what you said next. To this I say, why use many different machines for server tasks?[2017-10-04. : 7:02 pm] Ashamed -- I Dont like paying people to host stuff.. .So I just do all that within my own network.[2017-10-04. : 7:01 pm] Ashamed -- "I use a lot of my hardware for server related tasks" I don't know how you translated to because I can lol.[2017-10-04. : 7:00 pm] Ashamed -- I use a lot of my hardware for server related tasks and like you said power consumption on devices has gotten much better.[2017-10-04. : 6:59 pm] Ashamed -- I have a micro ryzen build with m2 as well and its not nearly as fast because the mobo.[2017-10-04. : 6:59 pm] NudeRaider -- oh you turn off lol. Yeah but then you still have to reopen everything.[2017-10-04. : 6:58 pm] NudeRaider -- AshamedAshamed shouted: NudeRaider I dont even put my computer to sleep ha that's not a good idea. More wear, wasted electricity for almost no gain.[2017-10-04. : 6:57 pm] Ashamed -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Anyways, why even turn off your computer? Sleep modes are almost as good power saving wise nowadays I dont even put my computer to sleep ha[2017-10-04. : 6:56 pm] NudeRaider -- Also no need to reopen mandatory programs like Firefox and having the advantage to retain a lot of stuff cached in RAM so you only need to load a fraction at program start.[2017-10-04. : 6:55 pm] NudeRaider -- Anyways, why even turn off your computer? Sleep modes are almost as good power saving wise nowadays[2017-10-04. : 6:54 pm] Ashamed -- ExcaliburExcalibur shouted: FaRTy1billion Yep. I get home, turn on my PC, put stuff away etc and it's ready when I sit down and would be even with a 5400RPM laptop drive Not when you have spontaneous mandatory reboots with Windows 10 ![]() [2017-10-04. : 6:43 pm] Suicidal Insanity -- Voyager7456Voyager7456 shouted: That's worth it alone Boot time is the least interesting metric ....
