There is no reason for the early turns to be the full two minutes. What I would do for that kind of map (and my civ map that I probs won't make) is start the turns off at say, 30 seconds each, then increase the turn timer by a second each turn until it reaches whatever the max is.

Yup. In general, if you're always going to do a thing that doesn't require variation or strategy, you may as well start the game with it already done for the players unless there's a good reason not to. Okay, maybe teching up demonstrates the feature and its importance. So make the first tech super cheap and give hints to buy it.

There was something about it in the briefing, and that's not even a bad thing, The issue is your only hope of playing the map somewhat properly on the first go is information overlord in the briefing, which reeks of bad design.

mm, computers had many upgrades above us and the only planet I could initially see was guarded by a valk and two hero BCs which my reg bc and wraiths could do nothing to - eventually worked around an asteroid field/a terrifying pack of scouts where I could outrange some rhines with my BC

Freakling -- At least there's for the most part a logical order in which to work over a map, which is from top left to bottom right. But that is only until it is not. When you are editing a tile in the very bottom right corner and it screws up stuff all over the map, that's the point where you really start to hate the whole thing…

Freakling -- Yeah. But the problem is that it is an algorithm that operates globally on the terrain, but has all kinds of local consequences. And it is just so atrociously bad at so many things related to actual pathfinding that those consequences unfortunately are all too often something really bad waiting to happen.

Suicidal Insanity -- So in terms of pathfinding. You are just taking an algorithm which wasn't meant to be updated iteratively (and which isn't) and then you are doing that by editing the map
