[2016-5-28. : 3:34 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I'm also not doing it full time, since I work and stuff[2016-5-28. : 3:33 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- This is my first year, so I don't know about any of that[2016-5-28. : 3:33 am] TiKels -- I have a theory that it's because engineering takes away your entire life. Then all that's left is stress and engineering[2016-5-28. : 3:32 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I learned about spermatogenesis from it, that was something I didn't know about before ![]() [2016-5-28. : 3:32 am] TiKels -- There's a stereotype about engineering students. That they complain too much about school, think they have it worse than everyone else, look down at other majors, etc[2016-5-28. : 3:30 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- like record it/watch it after your evening shift and then do the homework and turn it in somehow[2016-5-28. : 3:29 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- One of the colleges used to have classes on public TV late at night so I'd watch like biology lectures ![]() [2016-5-28. : 3:27 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- It'd be cool to just take all of the classes, but that would be really expensive and not get me anywhere[2016-5-28. : 3:26 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- My primary goal for school is to learn things and broaden my understanding, which is part of why I was considering a physics degree ![]() [2016-5-28. : 3:24 am] TiKels -- If you aren't going to be willing to work, you will not make it. You cannot slide by on intelligence alone[2016-5-28. : 3:23 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I feel like I have the aptitude for engineering, my only concern is what I have in aptitude I lack in drive ![]() [2016-5-28. : 3:21 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I dunno how far he is, he said he keeps changing his major and also has to balance school between working and having an infant and teenage stepchildren[2016-5-28. : 3:18 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- TiKelsTiKels shouted: I mean yes understanding is important. But if you go the engineering route your biggest barrier will be the intensity of the work which is why my brother backed out of it, he was struggling with chemistry and decided he didn't have the time to focus enough on it[2016-5-28. : 3:18 am] TiKels -- Professors will treat you unfairly. Group members will stop working and you'll have to pick up the slack.[2016-5-28. : 3:18 am] TiKels -- I mean yes understanding is important. But if you go the engineering route your biggest barrier will be the intensity of the work[2016-5-28. : 3:17 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I haven't taken any bullshit generals classes yet, but the classes I have taken I got 4.0 half-assing everything xD[2016-5-28. : 3:16 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- It's a philosophy that failed in highschool, because that's just being graded how much busywork you're willing to put up with[2016-5-28. : 3:16 am] TiKels -- It's not about understanding. Engineering is about pounding more material into your brain than you have time for[2016-5-28. : 3:16 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I feel like as long as I can understand the material I'll do well in school[2016-5-28. : 3:14 am] TiKels -- I'm just gonna go ahead and say if you wanna be an engineer and you wanna do well in school ... you better be willing to bust your ass[2016-5-28. : 3:14 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- CS is probably the best choice because it's easy and I know I can do it, but engineering ultimately sounds like I'd get the most out of it[2016-5-28. : 3:13 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I haven't really considered careers xD I'm more focused on what interests me the most[2016-5-28. : 3:12 am] TiKels -- Career choice sucks. I'm a fifth year senior and I'm not sure if I'm in the right place[2016-5-28. : 3:12 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I think he was saying he'd rather be the one to actually be building the stuff, not just designing it and talking about it or whatever[2016-5-28. : 3:11 am] TiKels -- No matter what you will be designing or working for a company. The things that you do for them will be for them. If they let you have access to the tools after hours ....[2016-5-28. : 3:11 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- dunno, it's all just stuff that interests me in general but I don't really know what to focus on ;o[2016-5-28. : 3:10 am] TiKels -- That's not to say there's none ... it's just a lot worse than mechanical[2016-5-28. : 3:10 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- mechanical would be cool. My brother wanted to do that for a while, but decided engineering was too hard for him and that the engineers don't necessarily actually get to play with the devices, just design and do all of the calculations or whatever[2016-5-28. : 3:09 am] TiKels -- If you wanna be competitive you gotta get a masters in aerospace or have some serious experience[2016-5-28. : 3:07 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- My brother said his friend is doing like biomimicry engineering, and that sounds like the coolest shit ever[2016-5-28. : 3:06 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Specific ones I'd probably be interested in are EE, materials sciences, or maybe chemical.[2016-5-28. : 3:06 am] TiKels -- A lot of EE programs get into really cool specializations in the late game[2016-5-28. : 3:05 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- ya, EE is one of the various engineerings I've been looking at ![]() [2016-5-28. : 3:05 am] TiKels -- With how much you like coding and that sort of stuff I would consider electrical engineering if you're going down the engineering route[2016-5-28. : 3:04 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- TiKelsTiKels shouted: What are you studying fart? I haven't decided between some sort of engineering or CS or like physics or something. ;o[2016-5-28. : 3:04 am] TiKels -- I think ivy league wouldn't like a GED student maybe. That's just a gut feeling though |
