Alright, guise. I just started playing SC again and I remembered the greatness of some of The Sims maps and Haunted mansion/Jailbreak maps. I wanna make a map but I don't know which type of map to chose.

For The Sims:
Now, I'm sure you have all played those boring, dull Sims maps where you have infinite money, workers, and other boring crap. You can control schools, police centers, etc. The problem with those maps is that they're not strategic, they're also not any fun. The only thing "fun" about it is getting to make your house, and that's only in some Sims. My Sims will include 5 main necessities for living. These will include: Hunger, Hygiene, Happiness, Fun, and most likely Health. The 5 necessities for living could be represented in units in a corner of the map. Hunger you will gain if you don't eat. You eat by going up to say, a barracks, and creating a unit. The unit will be assigned to a food, and minus your hunger. The marine could be junk food that would give -2 hunger, but also -2 health. Your health is always deteriorating, and the only way to replenish it is to eat/keep up with your hygiene. Your hygiene, too, is also falling and the way to fill it back up would be to wash yourself up by going to a shower or something. Your fun is gained by watching T.V, playing a video game, or going on the computer. You will most likely build your own house, and you have to go to work to get money. Going to work will be simple, it's just confiscating your main unit, and giving you a worker to mine. Buildings will be assigned to different jobs, like the Armory could be a toilet. You could most likely go to a super market, earn some extra money or something there. I was thinking that if you go to the mall and "research" your career of choice, you can get more workers. For example, when you start off with any career, it doesn't make a difference in which career you chose, going to the market and researching it will get you more workers to mine/make money. There will also be a key in the bottom left showing which buildings are which. This map could take a long time, but be worth it.

Survival horrors are my types of map. Ever played Alone in the Dark? Great map, so great that I wanna base one of my own creations on that. It will be a mix of jailbreak, puzzles, and darkness. Lots of darkness. You start off in a haunted and or mutated area. You'll get to chose what gun you want a little later in the map, so for the start it's running away from shit and puzzles. It would DEFINITELY be a team effort, using some units for some places and other units for others. There can be a medical unit, as in a Health Dispenser on the wall. This game would have some hard, strategic boss fights. I might even remake the Invincible ling boss, which you have to kill using a furnace in Alone in the Dark. Though, if you DO die you have a chance to come back. No exceptions. There WILL be revives. I might even make it so you have limited ammo. If I'm doing a mutated place, I'll make it so if you go into a radiated place, you gain gas. If you have like 15 gas or so, you die. The gas can be removed by an item or wall-unit. The radiated areas could be marked by a Swarm. The game would be pretty long, I'd say around 1-2 hours to complete (as a player, not actually making it).

Your opinions?

Also, if I do the Survival Horror, I'm going to need help on the terraining. Just PM me if you wanna do so.

Invincible ling boss: Invincible ling pops outta' nowhere and you can't attack it (obviously). There is a switch at the side of the room that turns on the furnace, which is just a couple of units dying, like a bound. Of course, if you touch these explosions, you die. But so does the ling. So the lurer must lure the ling into the furnace, right as the "bound" happens, killing the ling. It's really hard because the ling hits hard, and you have a chance of dying from the furnace, too.

Definitely horror.

So far it's is looking like I either do a horror or something else. I voted in the neither because I couldn't chose what. It's 0-2-2 now, keep on voting. Also, if you want to, please describe why you chose whichever option.

Sims maps are just not meant for starcraft. Their are horrendously boring. Go survival horror. The next undead assault anyone? :hurr:

I say we need more high quality RPGs, I'm not a big fan of horror maps in general. Game play often suffers in order to build atmosphere, but if you manage to make good game play and atmosphere, then it wouldn't be too bad I guess.

True, but have you read the main post? The Sims I'd make is actually fun.

Also, I'm started to doubt that I should make a survival horror, as everyone on Bnet are retards. Literally minutes after making the first post, I started making some Alone in the Dark..(did I mention that that is a fun game) and almost everyone is fucking stupid. Some people are alright, doing what I tell them and not doing what I tell them not to do, but there is ALWAYS that one retard, if not those three retards that screw up the game. For instance: Got to the ling, and some rine goes to the lever which releases the invincible ling and we weren't even close to being ready. I had about 6 games, and 5/6 had those idiots in them. The only game that didn't was the 6th, and I'm guessing they didn't know how to type in a password, because I saved right before a The Evil came and killed us, told them all the pass and to rj back. Only 1 came lol. The game I'm doing REQUIRES teamwork and since, like I said, most people are stupid, it'd be extremely annoying and hard to beat.

I've made up my mind not to do the Sims, but I now may do an RPG or something. Anymore suggestions?

Bnet nubs are like that, you get used to it. Better to play with a clan, friends, or SENners.

Why not a survival horror RPG? :sly:

True, true. I just assumed that was for everyone because my CD key is muted, so I can't really have any friends or clans lol. Also, that actually sounds kind of good. I don't know how it would work, but it seems pretty fun. Mind explaining it?

Hmm. Basically, have a night and day cycle. At night, zombies or whatever horrific monsters you choose roam in greater numbers, and you have less vision. You have to complete missions to finish the game. Storyline is what you decide. An inventory, perhaps a dropship system, is a must. Something like that.

Alright, if I'm going to HAVE to do a mutant-infested area though, as you most likely wont find real, alive people giving you quests in a haunted mansion. I'll start soon, but everyone still feel free to post suggestions.

You could have it that you have to find clues to solve the final quest, and not have missions at all, if you want.

Anyway, an ammo system would be sweet, perhaps with this: http://www.staredit.net/topic/9285/ Ignore the triggers in the post, and use the ones in the map instead. I'll re-do the post and map when I have time.

I'm thinking about making the protagonists just some civies that didn't know what the fuck was going on, and find guns to kill mutants. Being as creative as I am, the clues would probably lead up to a mad scientist that screwed up and released the T virus or something lol. I was thinking of the ammo system, but my question is, how will there be upgrades? Literally like getting a new gun? Or upgrading at a tech lab or something?

You mean how would you acquire new guns, or how to make the vHP work with new guns?

If you mean how you find new guns, just have it that you find them, or upgrade them at a gunshop, or someone upgrades them for you in a shop.

The Sims map you're talking about sounds a lot like this Sims map I used to love 3 years ago when I was first getting into SC, you might wanna try that map out to get an idea of how entertaining your idea is.

WOW! this is exactly like what I was thinking, by just a quick start-up of it. I didn't even know this map existed...

EDIT 1: If I were to make an ammo system, is there a way to do so without making it a 1 hit kill system?

You should do survival horror.

I don't think there is a way to do that, Kegdas. Sorry. You might be able to use EUD Cooldown Detection; that's shared info. But it's a little complicated.

Meh, it's cool. I really didn't have instant-kills in mind, but I could always just add more mutants. One or two more things: Where should the map take place? An infested city?

You can use the vHP system I posted. It sort of uses one hit kills, but the player can't tell that. DL the map and see what I mean. http://www.staredit.net/?file=1864

Ohhhhhhh, that is sweet! At first, I didn't even really know what you were talking about vHP. Now that I've actually seen it, it seems really cool.

EDIT 1: Alright, about that preposition I made earlier.. anyone wanna do/help me on the terrain?

EDIT 2: Is there a way for the ammo system to accept something else than gas? I'm sure I can find a way, but I don't wanna waste my time atm. What I mean: I still want minerals to count for how many bullets I have in the mag, but I want gas as money. Do you think I could have, like, physical gas count for how many mags you have left, and they could be shown by leaderboards or inventory screen? Like if you mined out of a geyser and the SCV is actually holding the gas, could that count for the magazine instead?
