Placing Dark Swarm in map? and more

Okay, perhaps this sounds very stupid, but how do I place a WORKING permanent dark swarm into my map? I went under 'Sprites -> Spells -> Dark Swarm' in Scmdraft and placed a bunch, but during gameplay they are completely ineffectual (no effect on units under them at all). Is there some sort of "set doodad state" or whatever that I have to do to make it work? I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Anything would be appreciated.

Also, in case someone remembers off the top of his/her head, what is the expected rate of resources return for a saturated (3 workers/patch) expansion with 1 gas and 8 minerals per minute? When doing a very fast expansion (12 nex, 14 CC), at what times can the first/second/third expos pop?

Go under units - > neutral - > zerg - > dark swarm. I think that is what you want, sprites usually don't do anything.

You need to place the Dark Swarm as a unit sprite, not a pure sprite. Sprites->Unit sprites->Neutral->Zerg->Dark Swarm.

As for your second question, no idea. I'm not sure I understand, but it sounds like you're making a melee map. If so, you should have posted this under the Melee section. Not a big deal, just post your melee map questions in the Melee section in the future.

EDIT: @above: Afaik, it will be removed unless you place it as a unit sprite, not a unit.

Mhmm, placing it as a unit causes a "Unit Unplaceable" error at the beginning and no swarm shows up. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Did you try my way? When I was testing it, mine placed fine, but TZ's method was a little wonky.

If you place a unit Dark Swarm, it must have open, walkable ground underneath it, or it will be implaceable, the unit sprite version can be placed over anything, like a normal Dark Swarm, however, you are limited to 499 sprites preplaced, so if you can, use the units.

More info on Dark Swarms: They cannot be given, moved, or created with triggers, only a Dark Swarm for Player 12 will have the range-attack shielding effect they normally have in-game, and it will also disappear after a period of time, like a normal Dark Swarm. If placed for any other player, it will stay indefinitely, but it will not protect units from ranged attacks.

Am I crazy or something? Both the unit swarm (p12) and the unit sprite cannot be placed over unwalkable terrain, and the p12 unit swarms last indefinitely for me.

There's a KeSPA map with permanent Dark Swarms on ramps... How did they do it?

check the map.

Just have your ghost enter the Dark Swarm and attack the other one and watch
However, it is weird, once the other dark swarm is gone, you get damaged :bye1: ?
EDIT: Does work, and HOPEFULLY Final edit.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
