This could go under UMS Theory and Ideas when it is solved.

I was trying to figure a different way to do damage to a unit. Is it annoying? Yes. Is it the best? Most definitely not. Does it work? Who knows. High chance of no.

Well I've been gone from sc for a while, but when I returned, I had a couple of ideas that I wasn't sure if they would work. This was one of them:

Current Player suffers 1 death of unit "health": set health of unit to 1%. This will continue until 100 death counts = 100% health.

I wanted to use this so that I would know the health of a unit. The problem occurred when I wanted to turn health to dc's, not dc's to health. So if my unit gets hurt, how was I to turn that into a dc? A member of Mp figured that why not just use:

enemy brings 1 unit to location 'hero is here': subtract 1 dc, wait x amount, preserve.

This would involve more triggers then needed. Especially for multiple units inside of 'hero is here.' Obviously the map would have to be under tight control.
With this problem also arose the problem of long ranged units attacking. What if the unit is in the location, a bigger location, but the long ranged attack unit was not attacking. Maybe its in the location, but the enemy is hidden behind a wall in the fow.

I know it can be a pain, but I have fun trying to figure new things out. This however, i think needs some review.
Please Reply. Thanks.

well there is the system where you have a buried stack of zerglings underneath you while you are allied victory with the computer. then each ling killed is 1 health point. then to rejuvinate heatlh, just bring to somthn, then make more lings.

now what you're talking seems impossible. as far as i know, its impossible to convert health into dc's, and if you can then i would really like to know how because that would open a ton of mapping possbilities

Map done by Krayzee I believe. Yes I have seen it.

One of the biggest problems, yes. I also believe it is impossible. At first I thought this was the system for just that, but I came across the problem. Since I was gone for a while, I thought it was possible to detect unit health in Conditions.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

This would be possible with EUD Health detection.
Restrictions:
- One set of EUD triggers for each unit
- Unit must be preplaced
- Unit must not die, or EUDs could screw up.

If you don't know about EUDs check the various topics about them. There's also sample maps in the DLDB.
But be warned, this is a quite complicated topic compared to regular trigger systems.

Couldn't you use EUDs to track health? didn't see Nude's post since we were 11 seconds off.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier

NudeRaider shouted: Symmetry I can't tell if it's relevant. You provided literally no context so I was providing an equally generic answer.
