Making invincible workers that can tele-mine?

So one day I played on a very old version of my my Cat & Mouse map and found this exceedingly strange glitch: watch the red probe and read the player messages.

(No, really, watch it, it's hilarious)

In short: My probe became invulnerable to all ground attacks, could not move, but was able to mine from across the map and deposit to a nexus as normal. It could also attack remotely.

There are a few possible causes for this, but I could not replicate it on the first try.

1. Moving a ground unit to an air-only location.
2. Continuously moving a ground unit to the same location.
3. Glitching onto terrain with bad building placement.

If anyone could figure this out, it might become very useful for maps, since a unit with essentially infinite attack range could have...many applications.

I order you to forgive yourself!

This is caused by constantly moving the worker to an non walkable location. It makes units have a hard time to kill it and allows you to mine from a distance. This was done since a while already and is used in most maps made by Clan Mp (My clan).

Also, if more units would have attacked, you would have most likely died.

Interesting; does it apply to all other ranged units as well? It could be nice to have a DDS based off of this mechanism.

I order you to forgive yourself!

According to what I remember, it only applies for resources. Maybe with a simple test, you could find out.

looks like it's stuck on the water.

If it's stuck on the water, that means it would be doing doing the same effect as moving to a non walkable locations I think.

It's not actually on the water, and I'm fairly certain that it's a trigger-based effect as outlined by apos.

post the map. It could be that the probe is being constantly moved to its location (on the water), and thus is stuck there.

Me and a friend discovered it and we discovered too how to do it. Place a location where ground units can't go, for example water or any tileset indexed tile. Make a trigger to constantly push it to move to that location. You can attack the unit but you need to be nearer and spam SHIFT + A and click on it, it can attack but it can't move. After you stop moving it to the unreachable place, it is a normal unit. I made that trick in Cat vs Mouse Caves for the Drone (Gravity Miner)

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
