The thing is, EUD's could write directly to memory, even to OUTSIDE sc memory. That's why EUD actions were disabled. But EUD conditions still work because they just read the memory and can do no harm.
There are maps about unit selection detection in the dldb. Keep in mind that the player must have set the unit you want to detect to a hotkey. Browse the dldb (Creatose section) for more maps with EUD triggers.
