The Curious

I meant "samase" actually. We've had a good laugh over it once.

Trial and error... mostly error.

Does it really matter which foreign word you type into your favorite search engine? I feel like if one gives bonus points all should. :bleh:

  • I wonder if Samase since it can run v17 without HD, can also (to save space on SSD and for easy portability) work without the gigantic useless data.00? files that Blizzard shoves inside the mouths of every user even if he isn't interested in the new skins and will never buy it, that would be really useful to compensate for one annoyance from Blizzard.
  • I also wonder if Samase can pass official args to v17 like --renderer=dx9 and other args.
  • Edit: On Win7 32-bit
    ---------------------------
    samase.exe - Application Error
    ---------------------------
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

Any solution to this^, its hard for me to drop Win7, at least I want to know if its going to be supported or not.
samase 0.8.31 worked fine on Win7, its just the new version that crashes.

Also while I was writing some notes about the tool I've discovered a new typo for its name, I wonder how many typos exist ? the new name of the tool is... Samasa! :D

Would it be possible for you to create an x64 build of Samase that is compatible with a ripped/unofficial version of Starcraft 1.23.10, like @FrenchVince mentions? This would essentially allow for a full offline modable environment without Blizz dependencies.

Maybe a generic build that supports both official and unofficial installations?

Someone poked me about it so I noticed that the samase in the post is a bit old now, if someone needs the newest one they can get it from my repo at https://github.com/BoneHorror/sezam/tree/main/bin (and I get it from Neiv)

Hi Neiv,

I’m working on a personal offline/LAN project for StarCraft: Remastered 1.23.10. I’ve recently been refactoring it to use the official Samase plugin API wherever possible instead of directly patching game addresses.

So far, I’ve been able to move several important parts onto Samase APIs:

- Per-unit order processing through `hook_step_order`
- Build, train, morph, lift, research, upgrade, and cancellation commands through `hook_ingame_command`
- Unit, order, technology, and upgrade data access through `extended_dat`

This has substantially reduced the amount of version-specific code and should make the project behave more consistently alongside other Samase plugins.

However, I still have to use low-level game hooks for several areas where I have not found a suitable higher-level Samase API:

- Selection behavior, including processing selection changes and larger control groups
- Related selection-panel and command-card UI behavior
- Keyboard input handling for additional in-game hotkeys
- A once-per-frame map/game-screen drawing stage suitable for drawing world-positioned rally lines

I saw `hook_draw_image`, `hook_renderer`, and `hook_draw_graphic_layers` in the public interface, but I have not found a supported callback with the appropriate timing and context for the rally-line use case. `hook_draw_image` appears to operate per image rather than as a general map-layer drawing callback.

Are there existing Samase interfaces that I may have overlooked for any of these areas?

If not, would you be open to contributions toward adding higher-level hooks for them? I can provide proposed API signatures, callback timing and behavior requirements, research identifying the relevant Remastered routines, test plugins, and testing against the current 64-bit Remastered version. I could also help add corresponding support to the public 1.16.1 shim where feasible.

I also noticed the public `samase_scarf` and `samase_plugin` repositories. If address-finding work, API declarations, tests, or another form of contribution would be useful, please let me know what contribution route you would prefer.

Thanks for maintaining Samase.
