Just like in title, is it possible to make hallucinated units deal damage? Preferably lower than normal units, but anything works really.
There is so much weird bs one can do with EUDs, maybe this is a thing as well?

Not without EUDs since you would need to either detect when the hallucination is attacking or disable the thing that prevents hallucinations doing damage. With the latter I'm unsure how the interaction works.

There are a few things I can think of that would allow you to do it (poorly) without EUDs but they would only be useful in very specific circumstances. What did you need this for in your map?

I would like to achieve something like in SC2 LotV mission when you have waves of 'terrazine ghost' enemies - look similar to normal units, but have less hp and deal less damage so you can actually swarm with them without instakilling the player.

Some of enemies being normal, some being weaker (Hallucinations taking double damage, disappearing in puff of smoke and being destroyed by spells is perfect).
I know you can edit unit stats with EUDs, but I am not sure you can make them die like Hallucinations do?

These would be spawned with triggers.

If you have EUD and nonEUD ideas I am all ears. I prefer to not use them if I don't have to, but adding a working attack onto Hallucinated units would be the best if it's possible with EUDs.
I really like them dying from spells and with hallucination animation.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

Maybe it's easier to take real units and make them look like hallucinations with EUDs?

For what you want it will have to be with EUDs. We will have to address each requirement separately as there isn't a clean 1 size fits all solution.
  1. Different stats than other units.
  2. Puff of smoke when killed.
  3. Spells instantly kill unit.
  4. If hallucinated, allow to deal damage.

NudeRaider's suggestion of using a different unit type is a good one and one I would recommend as being the easiest to implement. It will only have the first requirement but you can change the draw function of the unit's image to make it appear blue or transparent to distinguish it from 'normal' units.

With CUnit triggers you can fulfill the other requirements. Second requirement can be done by preventing the unit from dying and removing it then placing a hallucination death sprite in its location. This will only leave the 3rd requirement unfulfilled but this too can be done for some spells that leave status effects like ensnare but not for things such as EMP probably.

The other way would be to detect when a hallucinated unit attacks then apply damage, either directly to the targeted unit's hp with triggers or indirectly through some sort of DDS or a specific targeting system. Keep in mind that hallucinated units take double damage and do not have unit size received damage modifiers.

You can ask on the Discord and someone more versed in EUD triggers will help you out if you run into any trouble trying to implement things.

Thanks for replies I will try to tinker with it in the free time, now that I know where and what to look for it should be doable.

I did not know that hallucinated units don't have unit size received damage modifiers.
I also did not know this preventing unit deaths thingy, this is such a game changer and has so many applications in other things I wanted to do in the past! Thank you so much for mentioning it.

I forgot to mention that preventing deaths doesn't always work for melee. Hallucinations also do not have armor.

Also instead of removing the unit and replacing it with a smoke puff it might be better to just enable the hallucination flags and let it die. This might work but what do I know.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
