Just got this error message for the first time in my life. I imagine it is due to the new patches. What the hell is it and what causes it??

In this case, the 'file' it is talking about is probably just a network socket. Probably what happened is SC believed there was network data to read, perhaps a certain number of bytes, and when it went to read it, there were no, or fewer bytes, available than it expected, so it produced this error.

It looks like 1.16.1 but you say it's the newest patch? 1.18-something? What happened before and after the message appeared? Can you reproduce it? What map happened this on?

Could be mistaken, but I'm not aware of any dialog boxes in 1.16.1 that use full non-transparent black backgrounds.

I'm curious if this prevented you from continuing to play the map or just inconvenienced you.

Well yeah it closes the map. But I had a save so started back up and kept playing, didn't get it again until way later on. Seems random. Also I get general crashes these days too. The game is really unstable now thanks to these patches... -.-

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

Symmetry shouted: NudeRaider Is EUD editor capable of writing shit onto the player's harddrive? That seems like it would be dangerous
yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
