Purely out of curiosity, any Dubstep fans around here?


For anyone interested, here's some of my favorites:

I didn't really know about dubstep.
I can say the genre is interesting, yet not very my kind.

However, the 3rd song is very good. It made me think of Trip-Hop genre a bit, yet it definitely isn't trip-hop. I'd definitely classify it as Down-Tempo.

Dubstep + rap = a godly combo

I used to be big into dubstep a few years ago. The whole 'originated from South East London' is interesting, since Mr Oizo (a french electro-house DJ) has been making music that is 99% identical to dubstep since the early 90's. My favourite artists were Benga, Skream and Plasticman. Sort of lost interest in the movement as a whole however - but I am interested to know if it has generated much of a following/interest in the states?

I don't know if slowed down house music deserves its own genre.

Part of the reason I posted was to see the same thing. It has gained a ridiculous amount of following in Canada, at least around where I live. Particularly popular with stoners. It's taking the same way Rap did if I recall, 'old' fans complaining about the 'new shit dubstep' and everything. Same movement.

Check out the rest of Mt Eden, they do almost exclusively that kind of dubstep.

I guess it catches on in a certain area and then a club or two are opened to it as a feature night or the entire club might focus on the genre. That was certainly how it evolved in SE London - Warehouse was the first 'dubstep club' and showcased almost all of the up-and-coming 'new' DJs. But, as time went on, a whole plethora of DJ's were mixing and remixing old and new dubstep, some were sampling other tunes exclusevly, some were engineering the dubstep 100%, others were rapping over it, etc... It's for these reasons that I sort of lost interest, the once simple construct of dubstep completely diversified over the space of two or three months, and musically i wasn't attracted to it any more. I listened to some Mt. Eden and I do like what I hear however.

And yeah, same thing here in the UK - Dubstep is primarily followed by pill-heads and stoners.

Despite being a huge fan of electronic music I don't really like dubstep. It's way too slow and/or are too halting.

Which is exactly why it attracts... the ehmm... members of society... who ehh, uhhmm alter their perception through narcotic means?

It doesn't.

I really dislike Dubstep.

Then again I used to really like Goa-Psy, which apparently is a knock off of some other genre. Who knew?

Listen to glitch+Chiptune instead. It's the best kind of electronic music.

J-core and trance + some psy trance/gabber when I'm in the mood for it.
Also, for those interested in exploring different electronic music sub-genres, I recommend tuning in to http://www.di.fm/ as they have loads of different channels, including one with dubstep.

It's not bad, just not unique.

Some of my mates listen to quite a lot of dubstep, especially Mt Eden dubstep (Mt Eden's a suburb down the road from where I live actually ) but the only dubstep song I like so far is the Linkin Park Numb dubstep remix.
