So the idea is basically to make a melee map with heroes, just like war-craft 3. I am bad at melee map making and I wanted to rip off one of blizzard's map, so I came here to ask you all, what map would be nice for this kind of thing? (Preferably a map with at least 4 players that is smaller than 256*256, because I need to make it bigger to have some kind of area to trigger the heroes' abilities)

More importantly, what are you going to do about the map boundaries? If you cut a normal blizz map that is say, 128x128 and your map is 196x196, then there are big chunks of the map that the players shouldnt be able to fly into.

But Vreal is right you should be able to trigger your hero's abilities without an outside area

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
