Aternative to Peridic Timer

Hello all I have noticed a lot of people obsessing with good reason about how period events are like the bubonic plague to efficient triggers.

I thought of this idea the other day and don't know if it would be worse or better or just highly circumstantial.

Basicly instead of using a periodic use a 'Timer expires' Event. Not only does this make it so that the duration of your periodic is adjustable. But also ensures you a way to disable the periodic check.

Here is an idea of what the triggers may look like.
Event:
- Timer01 expires
Conditions
- Whatever
Actions:
- Repeated Actions
- IF (TimerCheck == TRUE )
- THEN { Set Timer01 to X seconds as a one shot timer (or whatever the syntax is) }

To Enable the Periodic you would make actions to:
- Varable TimerCheck = TRUE
- Set Timer01 to 0 seconds as a oneshot timer.

Like many everything I'm sure there are pros and cons and I have no idea how much lag a Timer causes compared to a periodic.

Edit: Oh you can probably use a variable for a periodic too... (I don't have access to Galaxy right now) Oh well =)

You can turn triggers off and on using actions. It is pretty much what you suggesting here and is a good idea when using periodic events, only run them when you need to.

Oh I hadn't realized that, that is pretty neat.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
