We do a little trolling

By NerdyTerdy (aka Ultraviolet)

Introduction:
When creating this map, I intended for it to be a small game, similar to the original, created by Softwarewolf. I succeeded for the most part in this (except for adding a few superfluous features). This map is fairly challenging, and unless you are really committed, it's unlikely that you'll ever beat it. Nonetheless, don't let that stop you having fun with it :P

Map Specs:
  • Players: 6
  • Tileset: Jungle
  • Genre: Bound-ish
  • Levels: 7
  • Map Dimensions: 64x64
  • Trigger Count: 561
  • File Size: 485kb

Screenshots

Other Features:
  • Toggleable music
  • Toggleable respawn
  • Toggleable AI (only available after 10 minutes of gamplay)
  • Basic banning system
  • Sexy overlaps

Additional Gameplay Notes:
  • There are no victory triggers. Isn't the satisfaction of knowing you won enough?
  • You have unlimited lives, the only thing that dictates how long you can try is your will.

I order you to forgive yourself!

I played that game last year or in January I think, it was really cool. I've beaten it once I think.

I definitely plan on playing this when you get the chance... A "how to" in the first post'd be nice, just so I have some idea of what it is.

BTW what's with all the swastikas? :P

As far as a how to goes, it's fairly simple. Just learn the patterns of the crystals so that you can avoid getting hit by them. Watching the AI perform some of the levels helps a lot in certain cases, but generally you should be able to figure it out on your own. Certain levels require a bit of knowledge about how the game works. For example, in the second level, you need to know that purple crystals don't kill you, so that you can know to burrow under one.

And the swastika in the terrain is a coincidental functional decision :3 For a few of the levels, carving a pattern out of the swastika makes for a good escape path that is still tricky to navigate.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
