100 x 5 = 500.
50 x 5 = 250.
So 5 goliaths = 500 minerals and 250 gas.
AND goliaths build faster, not to mention a terran will have more factories than the protoss has starports.
So technically, not only do 5 goliaths almost cost the same as a carrier, they also build faster and pop out in lots of numbers.
It seems like you're taking things like gols will be produced 5 at a time and carriers will be made 1 at a time. That's a completely unfair statement.

Goliaths are lower down on the tech tree, which means you can start building them earlier, plus they have smaller individual build times. Plus, AFAIK, most terran players have several factories earlyish on.

10 factories all produce goliaths at once. 10 goliaths. 500x2 = 1000. 1000 minerals and 500 gas for 10 goliaths. 3-4 carriers are made a time (Which is usually the amount being made at a time). In this case, we will say 3 carriers.
3 x 350 = 1050.
3 x 250 = 750.
1050 minerals and 750 gas for carriers.
As you can see, that is practically the same. And then goliaths build faster, so you can probably build 20 goliaths from your 10 factories in the time those 3 carriers pop out (Assuming the terran has a third).

There is no need for argument. If someone whines about something being imbalanced theres usually a counter for it.
It is becuase the majority of todays players don't understand that starcraft is ALREADY balanced and don't like to adapt their play style. They just like to copy pro gamers over and over and over.
As long as we realise that our insults of balance are 99% counterable we don't have to argue.
