What's best for a TurnBased RPG map?

And I need help designing a battle system.

3v3, in the middle is the battle field where the attacks happen. 3 by 3 grid.
  • What I have thought of was using dropships to hold "commands" like attack and use a spell or special attack.
  • When the battle starts, it either starts normally as 1 of your characters go, than your opponent attacks, and so on., then you can become unlucky and get struck first and you have to wait as your opponents attack you first, last if you are in fact very lucky, you can be able to have all of your characters attack first.
  • When your drop a "command" from your dropship, you get a cursor(scourge) you can move around to select your target. After you've selected the target, the command issues and you attack your target.
  • The actions of the enemy is determined by a randomness of deathcounters and who they target.

Anymore ideas/suggestions?

I've attached the bare bones version of my map.

How about a dark swarm or disruption field instead of a scourge? It would work much faster. If your situation allows it, why not make the commands just units placed around the battle field and you select them with the same Defiler or Corsair? Less units = win.

Never thought about using a defiler. Disruption field sounds better because you use a flying unit; my map will have uses of using a selector other than during battle. The reason why I'm using the transports holding units is that I want the player to pick and choose the different attack commands which will be a decent number of, more then the transports can hold.

Just to add, the firing rate of a disruption web is significantly slower than dark swarm.

Would a Comsat Station work better? I mean I don't care if the player uses it to reveal the whole map

Trust me, you want to use a dark swarm.

EDIT: Or disruption web.

Scan can't be detected inside a location, only through Command (or mana EUDs possibly)
