Although I wasn't a major mapper, I observed the community a bit before the whole hacking incident.

One primary drive for mappers, new and old, was old, down to Earth human competition. DM would be trying to make the Resident Evil map that would top UBCS's or DLK's. There was a strong desire to make a map better than the giants such as Tuxedo and Millennium, and gain fans out of the constantly growing SEN community. Today, we have none of that. Everyone was out to stake a huge place in mapping, whether it be a concept or a great map. That motivation is now mostly absent in the community(the modding community as well).

Combined with an ever decreasing map player and maker base, the community won't experience a revival barring a miracle, such as thousands of people want to play SC again, or SC2.

Wow I forgot that there was a backup of the old SEN.

Things like
http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php?st=19717 (Generals by Psi)
http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php?st=18386 (Aeon Of The Hawk)
http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php?st=16797 (SW: Coruscant by ShizTheresABear)
http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php?st=6846&p=1 (AE: After Earth by aE[Templar])
bring back many memories.

It's been so long it seems. Things have really died down since then. I'm on my second year of college and was only in 9th grade
when I first started coming here. :'( (Been coming here and making maps since 2004)

Things do seem to have died down. It will never be like it was. Not even when SC2 comes out. With the SC Editor you had so many limitations, it forced you
to push those limits to come up with something so unique and exciting you would be revered by the rest of the community. Back then it was everyone's dream
to become a "Map Making Celebrity". To get into clan (U).

You're right, now that feeling has died down and it will never be the same. Most of us just... grew up.

I could rave on, but this isnt a speech, I want to know what everyone else thinks on the matter. What happened, what slowed you down, etc?
Growing up, class, friends, a band, SEN Mafia, console gaming, administrating SEN, theater and you want me to MAP? HAHAHA!

I could help you with that administrating part :shifty:

But seriously, even 20 minutes of hardcore working every day adds up to a real map evenutally. (Unless you did 3 hours a day and itll be done in a week.)

Sure I didn't pop off on SCBW like I wanted to, but I won VRChat. Map maker for life.

Oh_Man -- and no consistent easy to use way to then play the audio either
[01:39 am]
Oh_Man -- where they use third party audioprogram called WWISE which basically makes adding audio extremely difficult
[01:39 am]
Oh_Man -- i appreciate SCBW's ability to just let us upload and play WAVs so much compared to nightmare that is total war warhammer 3

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.
