Is there any type of program that can alter the resolution ratio? I'm on 1280*800 and everything is mildly stretched. It doesn't bother me a whole lot, but something that would force widescreen ratios would be nice.

None.

You can always just shrink your screen down so it's not widescreen.

That will still stretch on a widescreen.
TwistedMcBane's hack is a piece of shit, and hellinsect's hack crashes on any non-standard resolution below 1024x768.

TODO: Write a hack that changes the base resolution to 768x480 and centers the screen. Values to change: 2 (Screen Left, Base Width).

Relatively ancient and inactive

That insectguy's hack is pretty much perfect, except for the cost of each unit and where messages are centered.

Zoan -- of course it isn't full understanding. You could ask "is the mechanism by which this counterexample blows up the ONLY mechanism possible for an initial configuration to blow up?"

Zoan -- ppl do it all the time in PDEs

Constructing a counterexample is answering the question: "Is Navier Stokes well posed?" in the negative
