When I joined a while back there was a whole forum dedicated to welcoming, if I am not mistaken. I think it was used a lot more widely than our current Welcome Topic.

With minerals gone and post counts no longer meaning anything to anyone, why are we still so tight on people posting? I for one think making the Welcome Area a forum once again would be a lot more inviting, sure it'd be spammy, but who cares, we need to relax and be inviting.

So 'what do you prefer?' is the real question.

Grand Moderator of the Games Forum

What?! I'm not an asshole :-(

But yeah, a forum section would be better I think. The topic is easy to miss and seems rather impersonal.

Dungeon Master

The forum was epic, but do we actually get enough new posters to warrant it? Someone do some research or something.

We just had a welcome topic closed in null, I recall seeing one somewhere the otherday and I am seeing a few new faces. There are probably a lot more that couldn't figure out their way and left.

A forum is a lot more visible, allows us to guide new members in the right direction instead of making them feel insignificant by punishing them for not posting in a topic hidden away with Bugs and Suggestions.

It's just a lot easier to navigate and keep control of.

Most definitely a must for any forum site.

Yahh definitely a welcome forum, there really should be a separate topic for each welcome. Could it be a subforum in Null?

Que Sera, Sera.

I like the welcome forum, but i really doubt they'll make one.

We should Have something!
I don't think we would need a whole forum on it. Topic should be just fine because we don't have alot of new people.

And then create a forum anyway.

Just Here For The Pie

I am not seeing much a difference from a topic and an entire forum. The forum would be a waste of sever space if any.

Anything a new member posts in their own topic can still be said in the welcome topic (e.g.; hellos, questions, concerns).
If they are too confused, they can also shout a question in the shoutbox, and, hopefully, a responsible member can respond to it.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

Problem with the thread is that it's hard to find when new. I didn't find it till months after joining.

The Welcome topic is a joke.. nobody really goes there and reads it the way they did a Welcome forum.

Whether or not we need any place for welcomes is debatable, but the topic is relatively pointless.

Nov 9 2009, 9:19 pm ClansAreForGays Post #18

Neither. Just let a new member make their own topic wherever they want. We get a new member with the desire to say hi maybe once a month, we'll live if he plops it in general starcraft, or anywhere.

Agreed with DTBK, here.
Personally, it wouldn't bother me to have a welcome forum, or to use Null for such purposes, but neither do I see need for it - if one does exist, anyways, the current thread seems rather... unsatisfactory.

Best idea is a full forum in The Staredit section undes bugs and suggestions. The most viewed spot would be above Null.

Ultraviolet -- Me too. The general concept is exciting and fun to play, or at least I enjoyed it in the previous Diplo Europe iteration.

Excalibur -- I have no idea if Clans will finish his map but I hope so.

Excalibur -- Sie is really really good and I'm glad Clans had them do the terrain for the new map. I feel like not enough of Sie's stuff will ever get used on a finished map.

lil-Inferno -- doing terrain was fun but also annoying

l)ark_ssj9kevin -- I preferred the terrain and unit placing. And of course making the unit names have cool colors.

NudeRaider -- http://staredit.net/381116/ it's funny, to me writing triggers was always the core of the (UMS) map making process and what actually made it fun to me. Creating terrain the least favorite part and thus I kept it pretty functional.
