Update: Live on Kickstarter!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2048283477/disunity-strategic-space-warfareWow, it's been a while. Although I'm sure like 90% of you guys probably don't remember me, for my fellow modders of the days of old: I've been venturing into the world of game development over the past few years, and I thought you might like to see what I'm up to.
Yesterday I put my game up on Steam Greenlight, and tomorrow (June 7th) I'll be launching a Kickstarter campaign in the hopes of being able to work on it full time for the next year.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=698086360Disunity is a RTS game set in space where you command fleets of ships and conquer planets by mind-controlling them.
And of course, one of the key features is mod support. I can't forget where I started out, and I want to give other people a great modding experience just like Starcaft 1 did for me. Honestly without all you guys and [MM] back then I probably never would have decided to professionally pursue game development--so I'm glad it was something that I stumbled into; it was an excellent experience.
Stay awesome guys, and thanks for all the good times in the past

Hey Polaris! I remember your name.

I myself as well have been getting a bit into game development. I started using Unity, and getting away from StarCraft (I am completely unsatisfied with Battle.net 2.0 and would not want to waste anymore time developing on that platform).
Are you using Unity? Or Unreal?
In any case, I would like to know how to allow players to connect themselves on the Steam Server with their account so that me and my partners could keep track of the stats, achievements and whatnot.
Thanks.
Good luck with that project!
Looks cool, and fortunately for you people on Greenlight think the same. What are you making it with, and is it just you or do you have a team?
In the first 30 seconds of his video he mentions that he's the sole developer, so I'd guess that he's outsourcing everything he can't do himself.
Speaking of which, I'm willing to provide studio-grade voice acting if you need it outsourced.

fuck you all
Thanks guys! Yep, it's just me for the moment. So far the only thing I've (obviously) outsourced was the voice acting for the intro cinematic. There were also a couple packages off the Unity Asset Store but the only thing noticeable is the planets, which are pretty but need to be replaced with custom art assets. And if you hadn't guessed it, yep, Unity engine. I like it a lot--very solid piece of software these days. Not exactly custom tailored to this game, but it totally beats building an engine from scratch.

That might very well be a possibility down the line, I'll add you to my list

Steam has an API that you can use to access all of that jazz.
https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/apiI haven't touched it as of yet since the game is hardly ready for it, but that's how you go about getting Steam integrated into your game

I can make you custom planets if you wish.
fuck you all
SEN will lend you it's energy.
I can make you custom planets if you wish.
Maybe

The planet system I'm using is kind of silly complicated and has a lot of different types of textures associated with it, so it's far less on the artistic side and a lot more on the technical when it comes to making these things. That's mainly why I've held off on it. But once the Kickstarter stuff has died down, successful or not, I'll be in the market for some hired help eventually

SEN will lend you it's energy.
mmmm I feel the energy!
Thanks guys!

Let me show you how to hump without making love.
Drone Controllers = Repears
Really though, good looking game and look forward to seeing where it goes.
None.

LOL, yeah it does have a fairly reaper-y look, doesn't it? Definitely one of the inspirations, also wanted something more alien-looking and menacing.
Thanks for the support!

Kudos for finding your passion and (trying to?) make it work for you financially.
Project looks interesting, and seems to be distinct enough to set it apart from the masses. As a nerd and space fan I like a lot about it, but I'm concerned about how certain aspects will affect popularity.
Gameplay graphics shown are pretty bland. No UI, basic particle effects, no sound. Although I understand that it's in an early stage of development, you probably want something to wow the masses to get more backers. Be it with a detailed rendering of a unit, or a flashy close up action shot. For some a strategic maneuver to beat the odds might be a selling point. Good marketing is just as important as a good product.
Having a female voice actor and a backstory video is a good start though, the backstory video doesn't leave much of an impression. It
should get me intrigued as it is, but for some reason doesn't and I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe because it's black and white, maybe because it doesn't create an impression of threat from the nanites. Maybe adding a hero that the viewer can identify with as he struggles might help? Also maybe it's the slides not being well connected story wise. You see a couple disturbing scenes and a bombing but despite the audio explanation it seems out of context.
Aight, enough for now. It's just that I think that you need someone that helps you present stuff in a way that gets people hyped for it. And I wanted to give you constructive criticism in that regard. You sure don't need help with concept, mechanics or programming.

Hope you didn't get an all-negative vibe from me, because I definitely like where this is going!

, that's a nice post. I agree with all your points.
