This comes to mind when I read this topic.
One thing I would like to see in new consoles is NO MORE LOAD TIMES!
None.
If cloud platforms take hold at any point in the future, gg all future console generations.
None.

FPS proleague players are pretty awesome, including halo. Other than that I mostly agree, except I'm normally the guy on a mic talking in an indian accent about how taylor swift makes some good rap, etc.

Remove that picture please. It's making me rage or can we spam this thread until we get to page three. I really don't want to look at that picture. Makes me rage.
I don't care about RAM. I just want MOAR CORES. I want an actual sandbox game that you can have a million NPC's and you could literally open every door and go everywhere. I don't care if the textures look all muddy and stuff. I need games that hog the CPU like Dwarf fortress on a console ;_;
space sims are cool, I agree.
None.
well the last time Nintendo made a real console, no one bought it.
huh. Gamecube and N64 were cool guys.

Lolnoob, you need RAM so that the info those cores crunch has somewhere to go, put simply. If you have over 9000 cores, you're going to need over 9000 GB of RAM to store the huge amount of info the cores process.

But But. Xbox 360 had like 3 cores and only 512mb o' RAM. ;_;

Actually guys, even though, IIRC, consoles are using RDRAM or some other god awful type, its still very cheap to make RAM these days. I am firmly convinced that making consoles with 1-2GB RAM is not only affordable but probably cheaper due to the lack of demand for 512MB modules.
;o To me it still seems like the wii, 360, and PS3
just came out. Why are they already making new ones?

They came out 5+ years ago.
I think it's because computers get more advanced exponentially, not linearly. (i.e. A computer improves at a rate of 1:4:9:16:25 and not 2:4:6:8:10)

Either way tho, things are driven by capitalism... Nintendo found an untapped market (i.e. "casual" gamers to use the term loosely) and exploited it and is now pretty much printing money!!
When I first so the ads with womenz and old people, it really brought a tear to my eye. I kinda found that when the Wii took off they were like trolls. Problem Sony? :coolface:
I think the biggest feature in graphics for the latest generation of consoles is mainly the higher resolutions. Other than graphics, there is the increase in various online stuff available, like online play and games you can just download and play.
Even graphics have a point of diminishing returns, and I think the know iPad has reached that point. If that's all they improve on, they are digging themselves into a bigger hole than they're already in.

Of course they aren't using RDRAM when it was obsolete back then.

Besides, it was already obsolete even when it came out, since DDR was faster even at lower speeds due to RDRAM's latency.
Also, the consoles surely don't use memory modules, which themselves have multiple memory chips. There isn't any specific number of memory chips they would put on a 512 MB memory module - they vary depending on the capacity of the chips they have available. Besides, memory modules you would put in your computer can have at least as many as 16 memory chips (they could probably even fit 32 on one, though I'm not 100% sure it is something supported). Even 4 GB / 16 = 256 MB, so they could use only a couple memory chips if absolutely necessary.

As long as I agree that playing a FPS means that you are a casual gamer, not a hardcore gamer, I must admit that I'm a complete Gears of War fanboy, and I've spent so many nights playing halo 2 with three of my friends after school...
The real shooters were those running with the DooM engine, I mean DooM, Heretic and Hexen.
The N64 and gamecube are the consoles I played that had the most replayability, mostly because of Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Smash.
Ex, I don't know why you hate the xbox controller, but I totally love it's ergonomy. Perhaps it's because I am 6'4" and I have a monster's hands.

Real men don't take sides and use whatever suits them best. They all have their ups and downs, no point getting involved in fanboyism.

I hope those exceptions include Quake and Tribes players

I've played (and actually still play) Call of Duty 4 extensively, it's decent, but HOLY SHIT are the players bad on average. I'm told the situation is similar with Halo (and that the people are more childish). Haven't forayed any further into CoD, except for the like three matches of MW2 I needed to play to convince myself peer-to-peer server hosting is just not possible yet. A handful of Halo matches was enough to convince me that it was no Quake, and a couple hours of the campaign (of H1, which is generally considered the best campaign from what I've heard) was enough to put me off the franchise in general.
But really I just want another space combat sim in the vein of TIE Fighter (and please God please not in the vein of Freelancer).
Damn right it does, Quake pros are gods in my eyes. Never looked much at Tribes, though.
COD4 is only good now if you play PROMOD, which is basically the tournament mod for COD4 on the PC. Lots of good players are still on there. Actually PM me if you're interested I can show you the server I play on most.

You know what I miss? Games that don't focus on graphics, but rather interesting gameplay mechanics and storylines. I miss novel concepts. I miss party games that I could invite friends over and play on one screen while we all laugh and eat snacks together.
I miss Pokemon Snap
