[2017-4-20. : 8:51 pm] Voyager7456 -- There was a very interesting article by one of the devs about the pathing in SC1 a while back[2017-4-20. : 8:32 pm] CecilSunkure -- Either that or spend an eternity looking at the assembly to get out some kind of algorithm that can be re-implemented[2017-4-20. : 8:31 pm] CecilSunkure -- The best way would probably be a more canonical A* implementation, and then layer over it custom if-checks to try and match original Brood War behavior[2017-4-20. : 8:30 pm] CecilSunkure -- That pathing algorithm was very complicated due to overlaying isometric behavior on top of a regular grid.[2017-4-20. : 8:30 pm] CecilSunkure -- ViperSRT3gViperSRT3g shouted: If BW were to be remade from scratch, how the hell do you recreate that wonderful pathing algo Very carefully[2017-4-20. : 8:12 pm] ViperSRT3g -- If BW were to be remade from scratch, how the hell do you recreate that wonderful pathing algo[2017-4-20. : 7:51 pm] Praetor -- Zoan someone remade the engine, think it's called openbw or something like that[2017-4-20. : 6:57 pm] Zoan -- No way, there's oldschool runescape?? At least one company is doing something right[2017-4-20. : 6:39 pm] Zoan -- Ours would have the advantage over theres in that we actually play the game[2017-4-20. : 6:37 pm] Ashamed -- ZoanZoan shouted: So are we all finally going to work together to remake SC from scratch? a remake![2017-4-20. : 6:36 pm] Zoan -- So are we all finally going to work together to remake SC from scratch?[2017-4-20. : 6:26 pm] ViperSRT3g -- Quick question: Do EUDs still work in 1.18? Or has the overflow been completely corrected? Or does the enabler simply have to be updated again?[2017-4-20. : 6:04 pm] Zoan -- lil-Infernolil-Inferno shouted: Dem0n Dem0n If you do this, please bacc up your entire maps folder somewhere safe. Uninstalling SC on 1.18 no longer has the option to retain maps. It bops all of them. They are literally trying to annihilate the SC community LOL[2017-4-20. : 6:03 pm] lil-Inferno -- I didn't find that out until it was too late so good thing I had all my shit bacced up LMAO[2017-4-20. : 6:03 pm] lil-Inferno -- Dem0nDem0n shouted: Oh_Man Download the starcraft installer from iccup's site, then download the 1.16.1 patch from somewhere and install it Dem0nDem0n shouted: http://iccup.com/starcraft/sc_start.html If you do this, please bacc up your entire maps folder somewhere safe. And yes, they should've never released this mess of a patch outside a ptr, but what I'm saying is that there's no point judging the final product from it's current unfinished state. Lets all suck it up and try to help improve it as best as we can. 100% agree.[2017-4-20. : 5:32 pm] Dem0n -- Oh_ManOh_Man shouted: Honestly pretty tempted to roll back and go back to ICCUP for now. Anyone know how to do that? Download the starcraft installer from iccup's site, then download the 1.16.1 patch from somewhere and install it[2017-4-20. : 5:20 pm] Oh_Man -- Sigh, playing on bnet, like every 5 seconds my game will "skip" or "hang" for like a half a second. Like WTF is this! It's enough to stop the music from flowing seemlessly as it interrupts the WAV and DC synch[2017-4-20. : 5:17 pm] Oh_Man -- Well, I downloaded their launcher, clicked it, thinking it would let me create a new Starcraft, instead, it found my old Starcraft and patched it -.-[2017-4-20. : 5:17 pm] NudeRaider -- I'd imagine the oldschool way of installing sc/bw from CDs and then applying the 1.16.1 patch should work. Unless there's no "offline installer" version of the patch? (But I thought there was)[2017-4-20. : 5:16 pm] NudeRaider -- Oh_ManOh_Man shouted: Honestly pretty tempted to roll back and go back to ICCUP for now. Anyone know how to do that?[2017-4-20. : 5:15 pm] Oh_Man -- I'm getting disgusting FPS lag while in bnet menu/games... sigh. LAN is fine though.[2017-4-20. : 5:14 pm] NudeRaider -- it indeed is. It isn't happening to me, so quite possibly.[2017-4-20. : 5:08 pm] Broflamingo -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Oh_Man I'm amazed how many bugs this whole process creates. From the interview at teamliqud I'd have expected them to to carefully evolve the game to something better, but I'm getting the impression what they're actually doing is wholly gutting sc, while just avoiding touching game engine code, and now trying to stitch it all back together. This also makes me realize it's not "just another patch" but really a new game and we've entered beta testing phase again. And at that point I'm glad they're abusing us as their testers, as they'd never invest enough resources to do proper inhouse testing / QA in any reasonable timeframe. SO while it's understandable that you (everyone) find the bugs infuriating, you could just as well see it as a chance to help reshape sc into the game we all wanted it to be. Just have faith in Blizzard eventually (but definitely not on the first or 2nd or 3rd try) will get there... Nude my beef is, it seems like this is SC2 part deux. They already had the template from SC1, and the mistakes from SC2 are hard learned (or are they?). Again, when profits are the bottom line, the player/consumers suffer.[2017-4-20. : 5:04 pm] NudeRaider -- They do have a good track record of failing horribly and then over time make it decent.[2017-4-20. : 5:03 pm] Dem0n -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Oh_Man I'm amazed how many bugs this whole process creates.
