LMAO except not even hundred year shit-storm, literally thousand year shit-storm LMAO[2017-5-03. : 2:05 am] Moose -- Yeah, I was going to say, how is a hundred year shit-storm different from the Middle East now? LMAO[2017-5-03. : 1:58 am] lil-Inferno -- jjf28jjf28 shouted: well they have a referendum with tons of momentum anyways; for me what's important is what message we send to Muslims and to Russia now that the Islamic State is crumbling; with enough international support we could end up with a couple Japan-style success stories, with too much isolation and adversarial messaging I see a hundred year shit-storm brewing in IS' wake w/e, Middle East been fucced since the Mongols gave it the ol' bop lmao[2017-5-03. : 12:36 am] jjf28 -- well they have a referendum with tons of momentum anyways; for me what's important is what message we send to Muslims and to Russia now that the Islamic State is crumbling; with enough international support we could end up with a couple Japan-style success stories, with too much isolation and adversarial messaging I see a hundred year shit-storm brewing in IS' wake[2017-5-03. : 12:20 am] jjf28 -- in less entertaining political news Francois Fillon and Jean-Luc Melenchon throw their weight behind Macron; all he has to do is not royally screw up (annnd jinxed) ![]() [2017-5-02. : 11:53 pm] Moose -- Like, imagine that, testing future projected worst-case loads instead of current O_O[2017-5-02. : 11:49 pm] Moose -- JackJack shouted: Mini Moose 2707 Yes, we can do that. We can also take the existing DB and replace everything with rubbish data that still fills the same size of DB so it's basically the same. Yeah, though I also think data generation tools would be good to test scaling even beyond current levels because you can make arbitrary amounts of whatever[2017-5-02. : 11:45 pm] Jack -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Ashamed This is true. Perhaps there can be code in the test suite that populates the database to realistic amounts of data? Yes, we can do that. We can also take the existing DB and replace everything with rubbish data that still fills the same size of DB so it's basically the same.[2017-5-02. : 11:27 pm] Ashamed -- So its centos5 ha. I mean support just ended... So its not that bad.[2017-5-02. : 11:25 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: centos5?? that would be embarassing lol. Since You could say I'm Ashamed of it booooooo[2017-5-02. : 11:21 pm] Moose -- Suicidal InsanitySuicidal Insanity shouted: I have seen that used occasionally... always a sure sign of poor performance ;( coded the site and I'm grateful but I can tell you he was not a database guy or even a Linux guy.[2017-5-02. : 11:21 pm] Pauper -- I am off for now, I may check back in later. Have a good night/day/whatever.[2017-5-02. : 11:20 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: what centos is the old server on??? AN EMBARASSING ONE. ![]() [2017-5-02. : 11:20 pm] Suicidal Insanity -- I have seen that used occasionally... always a sure sign of poor performance ;([2017-5-02. : 11:18 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: Pauper Its mysql most likely. (are you using cpanel or anything moose?? ) or is it just lamp? It's cPanel now, the new server is just a LAMP stack (with the A and the P built from source). I actually managed to get php-fpm to work, too, which I could never do here fighting with cPanel.[2017-5-02. : 11:17 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: yeah thats how i do my pw hashes as well... bcrypt is awesome! Yah no one can get text from those hashes. for now, anyway. Get in some password_needs_rehash action and you change over whenever it's broken, so it's w/e.[2017-5-02. : 11:17 pm] Pauper -- AshamedAshamed shouted: I just want to reiterate doing shit like this... Is what I do for my job ha. So just setup a way for me to help and I will help! <3 you should get into discord and chat with them one time. I am sure they'll listen when its not in the laggy ass chat box ![]() [2017-5-02. : 11:16 pm] Ashamed -- yeah thats how i do my pw hashes as well... bcrypt is awesome! I bopped a lot of them that were frequently used, but there's plenty to go.[2017-5-02. : 11:15 pm] Ashamed -- I just want to reiterate doing shit like this... Is what I do for my job ha. So just setup a way for me to help and I will help![2017-5-02. : 11:14 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: Suicidal Insanity if hash was used instead of encryption.. This really isn't a super huge deal.. Of course don't make the DB open source, but trusted members that are working on the site shouldn't be a huge deal. It is hashed. It uses this.[2017-5-02. : 11:14 pm] Ashamed -- PauperPauper shouted: Mini Moose 2707 Yeah lol, thank too. I don't know much about SQL (if it is SQL), but if you guys ever need help with optimizing your server... I can help Its mysql most likely. I can help ![]() [2017-5-02. : 11:11 pm] Moose -- PauperPauper shouted: Suicidal Insanity Good point, you'd have access to the notepad section for each user profile. Not to mention the password hashes and all the PMs LMAO[2017-5-02. : 11:11 pm] Ashamed -- Suicidal InsanitySuicidal Insanity shouted: DB access has privacy implications though if hash was used instead of encryption.. This really isn't a super huge deal.. Of course don't make the DB open source, but trusted members that are working on the site shouldn't be a huge deal.[2017-5-02. : 11:10 pm] Pauper -- Suicidal InsanitySuicidal Insanity shouted: DB access has privacy implications though Good point, you'd have access to the notepad section for each user profile.[2017-5-02. : 11:10 pm] Ashamed -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Ashamed This is true. Perhaps there can be code in the test suite that populates the database to realistic amounts of data? We can generate fake data, but generating the correct fake data may be a bit harder ha. Perhaps I can make something for us in that aspect.[2017-5-02. : 11:09 pm] Pauper -- DevliNDevliN shouted: Pauper Not inactive, though I don't really help speed up the site because I know nothing about that aspect of it. I think I was chosen to take on paying for SEN mainly because I was able to afford it, not because I had any ability to fix it. Thank you for the info. I feel better now that I did donate $20. I also noticed I can now type in color! Totally worth it..[2017-5-02. : 11:08 pm] Moose -- AshamedAshamed shouted: Mini Moose 2707 My issue with this is database access.. Testing functionality would work much better, if we could test it with the current database. Bad queries work just fine with small DBs This is true. Perhaps there can be code in the test suite that populates the database to realistic amounts of data?[2017-5-02. : 11:07 pm] Dem0n -- DevliNDevliN shouted: Pauper Don't listen to Dem0n. Donations go towards paying the monthly hosting fee. Everyone working on the site is doing it voluntarily. Though since we are in the process of vetting a new VPS, donations would be going toward paying for that. I know that, but I was saying that donating money won't do anything to directly improve the site like pay for manhours to work on stuff lmao[2017-5-02. : 11:06 pm] Ashamed -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: We've done a proof of concept with the v4 code and it appears to have been a good thing. Not that v4 is anywhere near the scale of v6, it was at least a learning experience. My issue with this is database access.. Testing functionality would work much better, if we could test it with the current database. Bad queries work just fine with small DBs[2017-5-02. : 11:05 pm] DevliN -- PauperPauper shouted: Ahh shoot, really? So he is just inactive and doesn't help speed up the site? Not inactive, though I don't really help speed up the site because I know nothing about that aspect of it. I think I was chosen to take on paying for SEN mainly because I was able to afford it, not because I had any ability to fix it.[2017-5-02. : 11:04 pm] Moose -- Like, 99% of contributors going to disappear when I say things like "you have to document any code files you change" and "you have to unit test any functionality you change", so we might as well keep the pool big LMAO[2017-5-02. : 11:02 pm] Pauper -- PauperPauper shouted: Okay, thanks Devlin. Good to know that the donations are indeed going for something to improve the site. test[2017-5-02. : 11:01 pm] Moose -- If someone from an underwater basketweaving site wants to contribute, w/e. Pull in if good, reject if garbage, who cares?[2017-5-02. : 11:00 pm] Moose -- Dem0nDem0n shouted: Mini Moose 2707 tbh, should close source and share with SEN members only. Can do a free repo on Bitbucket. Why? |
