O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- :wob:
[2018-6-09. : 5:21 pm]
Moose -- You seemed very adamant yesterday that this sort of thing is generally not laziness or poor prioritization (eg. hedonistic tendency to choose a good tasting thing here and now versus what's better for the future person) or bad decision making, so is there some sort of widespread biological hydrophobia? (which is odd because there's plenty of water in soda and beer)
[2018-6-09. : 5:18 pm]
Moose -- It's counter-evolutionary (humans evolved and survived on water for millions of years before figuring out juices and alcohols, let alone HFCS) and counter-economic (water is cheaper than Coca Cola in almost all cases, even if you have to buy a filter)
[2018-6-09. : 5:16 pm]
Moose -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: lil-Inferno prime example of what's wrong with public perception of the problem
NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: honest question: How much has this opinion been formed from media and overhearing stuff vs. actually talking to an obese person in an attempt to understand his situation?
NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: (and again, I'm not denying that cases exist where their excuse is bad taste of water. It's just that most of the time it's different, or there's many more factors)
If you sampled ten thousand people who gave this reason for not drinking more water vs sugary / alcoholic drinks when they know they should, what proportion do you think actually have a legitimate biological / neurochemical condition (actually have, distinct from claiming they have) that causes them to have a legitimate distaste for water?
[2018-6-09. : 11:43 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Y'all need some filtration
ya. Filtrated it's bearable, before it's just awful. Nothing beats spring water though. Had 2 springs in my home town. Loved to just stop there and take a couple of swigs when I was close by
[2018-6-09. : 11:38 am]
Moose -- FaRTy1billion
FaRTy1billion shouted: friday night, who wants to get hydrated with me? :drunk:
Sorry, I had too much and was already asleep
[2018-6-09. : 11:38 am]
Moose -- Y'all need some filtration
[2018-6-09. : 8:53 am]
NudeRaider -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: lil-Inferno but Florida water sux xD
tap water here sucks as well. Used to be in a city where we had water that was really tasty and cold and of high quality. Was quite shocked when I tried the water here the first time :P
[2018-6-09. : 8:50 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Ya, you need to account for decision fatigue. If you keeping soda or w/e around, you know you gonna drink it. Like an alcoholic keeping liquor around.
a good example of what can help. Not an end-all-be-all solution tho.
[2018-6-09. : 8:49 am]
NudeRaider -- (and again, I'm not denying that cases exist where their excuse is bad taste of water. It's just that most of the time it's different, or there's many more factors)

NudeRaider -- lil-Inferno
lil-Inferno shouted: the only people who are incapable of changing their lifestyle are the ones that are like "eww I don't like the taste of water" lmao
prime example of what's wrong with public perception of the problem

O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- water sounds good af right now

lil-Inferno -- the only people who are incapable of changing their lifestyle are the ones that are like "eww I don't like the taste of water" lmao
[2018-6-09. : 3:20 am]
Pr0nogo -- and i still eat like shit plenty of times but i'm not gaining weight because of the exercise and fasting i do, so the diet itself doesn't even need to be adjusted
[2018-6-09. : 3:20 am]
Pr0nogo -- once i was honest with myself and decided i gave a shit about myself i lost 40 pounds in 2 months from adjusting diet and adding exercise
[2018-6-09. : 3:19 am]
Pr0nogo -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: but you're probably right that there's not much to discuss. You are convinced that people could if they just wanted it enough. It's what everyone thinks, afterall. I'm just glad that the medical society is slowly changing in that regard, and actually recognizes that it's a disease.
this literally is all i had to do and i am actually mentally ill
[2018-6-09. : 3:19 am]
Pr0nogo -- FaRTy1billion
FaRTy1billion shouted: just eat milk. It curdles in your stomach and so it keeps you full for longer
don't do this, dairy is really bad for you unless it's already past expiry like cheese
[2018-6-09. : 2:37 am]
jjf28 -- cept those stupid labs that had me get up at 7am smh
[2018-6-09. : 2:37 am]
jjf28 -- although I almost never took morning classes so I could stay up till when/e
[2018-6-09. : 2:35 am]
jjf28 -- that's probably the wrong way to do it :kame:
[2018-6-09. : 2:35 am]
Dem0n -- I used to keep a two liter of mountain dew by my desk freshman year. I'd just drink from it throughout the day and I'd end up being up until like 3 AM every night smh
[2018-6-09. : 2:34 am]
jjf28 -- only drank it when I was very fatigued and had to get shit done
[2018-6-09. : 2:33 am]
jjf28 -- I would keep a 12 pack of soda around for like 3 months in college xD
[2018-6-09. : 2:31 am]
Moose -- Ya, you need to account for decision fatigue. If you keeping soda or w/e around, you know you gonna drink it. Like an alcoholic keeping liquor around.
[2018-6-09. : 2:29 am]
jjf28 -- Jack
Jack shouted: and habits
ugh, habits
[2018-6-09. : 2:18 am]
Moose -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: Mini Moose 2707 thermodynamics does apply, but humans are not a closed system
Yeah, that's kind of the point LMAO
[2018-6-09. : 2:12 am]
jjf28 -- maybe dark matter has an unnatural attraction to their soul https://youtu.be/BHdWz51LRHU
[2018-6-09. : 2:12 am]
jjf28 -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Yeah, ultimately they have to figure out why they can't (still asserting it's won't in some cases) and address it. 20 different people can have 20 different reasons. TBH I'm just mad some people shitpost (not here) about how thermodynamics doesn't apply to them LMAO
thermodynamics does apply, but humans are not a closed system
[2018-6-09. : 2:07 am]
Jack -- and habits
[2018-6-09. : 2:07 am]
Jack -- you need discipline and schedules, not willpower and motivation
[2018-6-09. : 2:07 am]
Jack -- also motivation's not normally a great way to run your life because willpower and motivation are limited
[2018-6-09. : 2:06 am]
Jack -- my room pretty messy but my life more together than when it was clean what now
[2018-6-09. : 1:22 am]
Moose -- It starts building competence, starts taking control of your life
[2018-6-09. : 1:21 am]
NudeRaider -- a good advice for anyone ;)
[2018-6-09. : 1:19 am]
Moose -- Gotta clean their rooms, TBH
[2018-6-09. : 1:18 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Yeah, ultimately they have to figure out why they can't (still asserting it's won't in some cases) and address it. 20 different people can have 20 different reasons. TBH I'm just mad some people shitpost (not here) about how thermodynamics doesn't apply to them LMAO
Often enough the barriers are only in their heads. Nonetheless they are barriers. Some can overcome their barriers with the right motivation, like losing a loved one, for example, or finding a supporting love.
[2018-6-09. : 1:12 am]
Moose -- Yeah, ultimately they have to figure out why they can't (still asserting it's won't in some cases) and address it. 20 different people can have 20 different reasons. TBH I'm just mad some people shitpost (not here) about how thermodynamics doesn't apply to them LMAO
[2018-6-09. : 1:07 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Oh. If it wasn't clear, I don't deny that biological or brain factors exist.
I mean, as you've said eat less than what you burn and you'll lose weight. It is that simple. (Which explains the stigma of lazy "why doesn't he just do it") Getting there is the challenge. (he wants to do it but can't)
[2018-6-09. : 1:05 am]
NudeRaider -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: yet most of the problem definitely lies in lack of motivation
w/e :P
[2018-6-09. : 1:01 am]
Moose -- Oh. If it wasn't clear, I don't deny that biological or brain factors exist.
[2018-6-09. : 1:01 am]
Dem0n -- yet most of the problem definitely lies in lack of motivation
[2018-6-09. : 12:59 am]
NudeRaider -- I think you're approaching this too 1-dimensional. Obesity is a very complex problem that is different for each person, and can have countless factors that influence it. Choices (conscious or otherwise) are just one piece of the puzzle
[2018-6-09. : 12:53 am]
Moose -- So did I get memed by poorly explaining myself or am I missing how this is different than consciously or unconsciously weighing priorities against each other?
[2018-6-09. : 12:49 am]
NudeRaider -- ya :P
[2018-6-09. : 12:49 am]
Moose -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Btw. I also agree, that for some people it's just lack of motivation.
Or they're more motivated to do easy and expedients things that have more enjoyable short-term consequences? :P
[2018-6-09. : 12:47 am]
NudeRaider -- Btw. I also agree, that for some people it's just lack of motivation.
[2018-6-09. : 12:46 am]
Moose -- Actually, gonna meme for a second NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Mini Moose 2707 then why is it so hard to believe it can be the same in those areas (and actually every other area imaginable)
I do understand, it's how I ended up in this conversation C|X^DDDDDDD
[2018-6-09. : 12:45 am]
Moose -- I can agree with that
[2018-6-09. : 12:43 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Can we at least settle for unconscious and undiscovered vs irrational?
You mean like some psychologial issue? Trauma? Definitely on the list, but I'd guess not *that* common Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: I'm having a hard time being convinced there is literally no root cause.
I too believe there always must be some cause. But I also believe the brain is too complex for us to understand yet. Just like you wouldn't look for the cause when you're gay. However sure enough, there will be many cases where there's neurochemical issues, like reward center firing, or "I'm full" signals sent too late.
[2018-6-09. : 12:32 am]
Moose -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: and then healthy 'ol Moose strolls along and asks you "Why are you doing that? It's bad!"
But probably only if you're bitching it about the consequences LMAO
[2018-6-09. : 12:31 am]
Moose -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Mini Moose 2707 it's not that tbh. It's having an open mind and that other people may have to deal with shit you can't even imagine. Less judging would do us all good (and that includes me. ESPECIALLY me. I love judging)
I mean, how did we get into this? I opened my mouth. Could say I chose to get into this LMAO
[2018-6-09. : 12:16 am]
Moose -- I'm having a hard time being convinced there is literally no root cause.
[2018-6-09. : 12:15 am]
Moose -- Can we at least settle for unconscious and undiscovered vs irrational?
[2018-6-09. : 12:12 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: NudeRaider That's a good question, actually. I don't know if I'll ever have an answer. Or at least one that is rational, anyway.
first step is understanding that it's not rational. ;)
[2018-6-09. : 12:11 am]
Moose -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Mini Moose 2707 then why is it so hard to believe it can be the same in those areas (and actually every other area imaginable)

[2018-6-09. : 12:07 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: All right, then, I'll stop giving unsolicited advice. Saves me time, so it's a win-win.
it's not that tbh. It's having an open mind and that other people may have to deal with shit you can't even imagine. Less judging would do us all good (and that includes me. ESPECIALLY me. I love judging)
[2018-6-09. : 12:05 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Oh, I have those areas in my life. Just not in terms of diet and exercise LMAO
then why is it so hard to believe it can be the same in those areas (and actually every other area imaginable)
[2018-6-09. : 12:04 am]
Moose -- All right, then, I'll stop giving unsolicited advice. Saves me time, so it's a win-win.
[2018-6-09. : 12:04 am]

[2018-6-09. : 12:04 am]
NudeRaider -- and then healthy 'ol Moose strolls along and asks you "Why are you doing that? It's bad!"
[2018-6-09. : 12:03 am]
NudeRaider -- Just let me tell you, consider yourself lucky, that you unable to understand this: Jack
Jack shouted: Yeah having thoughts that you are aware are irrational is quite an eye-opening experience. And you can't just stop thinking those thoughts without something to drown them out, like working really hard or drugs
Nothing is more fun that knowing you are gonna do a thing you shouldn't, then you do it, and while you do it you curse yourself for doing it.
[2018-6-09. : 12:00 am]
NudeRaider -- some may actually not have "a way out". Those can be helped with operations.
[2018-6-09. : 12:00 am]
Moose -- But they live it with it every day and they are very aware of the things they should be doing.
[2018-6-08. : 11:59 pm]
NudeRaider -- let say they don't know how.
[2018-6-08. : 11:59 pm]
Moose -- But then they wouldn't be unable to change.
[2018-6-08. : 11:58 pm]
NudeRaider -- yep. Unless they get the specific personal help that they need in their case
[2018-6-08. : 11:58 pm]
Moose -- never will*
