Just browsing with a million windows open lol[2023-12-28. : 5:49 pm] Ultraviolet -- Ideally I'd like to run the CPU at a lower power anyway since it's so damn hot[2023-12-28. : 5:48 pm] Ultraviolet -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Ultraviolet curious. Have you tried fiddling around with power settings? maybe high or low performance plans influence it. Or try changing (up or down) power and frequency limits of the cpu. I haven't, but I certainly could try[2023-12-28. : 4:06 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: The noise is very intermittent, I can get it to stop by temporarily putting the comp to sleep and then immediately waking it up, but it's not an ideal solution because it does eventually come back curious. It seems to be coming from that vicinity. I used the dB app on my phone and I can't say the results were conclusive but it did seem a bit louder there. I already had my GPU in my previous rig and it never made that noise before. Or would it just be the motherboard in that case? the cpu die itself? Haven't heard of it being possible, but who knows with these new chiplet designs. I would suspect the voltage converters on the mainboard around the cpu.[2023-12-28. : 3:59 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Impossible UV3 early test version is out: http://www.staredit.net/topic/18675/ It's fully functional, just not calling it 1.00 yet since I may still make some big changes to it. ![]() [2023-12-28. : 5:35 am] Ultraviolet -- Impossible UV3 early test version is out: http://www.staredit.net/topic/18675/ It's fully functional, just not calling it 1.00 yet since I may still make some big changes to it.[2023-12-28. : 4:23 am] Ultraviolet -- I'm considering just replacing the case with a sound dampening one, seems like that might at least dull it to a tolerable level. Frustrating issue to have, it's like having a really loud god damn mosquito in my office -.-[2023-12-28. : 4:21 am] Ultraviolet -- The noise is very intermittent, I can get it to stop by temporarily putting the comp to sleep and then immediately waking it up, but it's not an ideal solution because it does eventually come back[2023-12-28. : 4:19 am] Ultraviolet -- I tried reseating the CPU since I worried I applied too much thermal paste the first time around.. It seems like it's running too hot, it's at 44C at idle. Minimum I've seen is 42C even after reseating with a bit less thermal paste.[2023-12-28. : 4:18 am] Ultraviolet -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: try to find it with a decibel measuring app on your phone. It's most often the GPU, PSU or Motherboard. HDD I would rule out. Could it be the CPU? It seems to be coming from that vicinity. It was too much power going through.[2023-12-20. : 11:04 am] NudeRaider -- m.0.n.3.ym.0.n.3.y shouted: Can I hire someone to do a EUD remake of a map? nomen est omen[2023-12-20. : 3:44 am] Ultraviolet -- It's getting harder to identify because it seems to be making the noise less frequently. Not complaining Glad it seems to be settling down. Kind of strange that it would happen almost 100% of the time at first and gradually dissipate though[2023-12-19. : 3:54 pm] NudeRaider -- try to find it with a decibel measuring app on your phone. It's most often the GPU, PSU or Motherboard. HDD I would rule out.[2023-12-19. : 2:03 pm] Ultraviolet -- Oh_ManOh_Man shouted: Ultraviolet sounds like coil whine, try disconnecting the GPU temporarily to confirm Yeah, that's my understanding, too regarding the coil whine. What makes you say it's the GPU? Is that the most common part that experiences that? I'm using the same GPU from my previous rig and it never made that noise in the previous machine so I didn't think it would be the one causing it. But the hard drive is the same, too, so I guess my logic isn't that great. They both survived the explosion of the previous system (I believe it was the CPU that popped) so I guess maybe that affected something? They both still seem fully functional. Only issue I noticed when I moved over to the new machine was the new coil whine and when I watched videos at first they would kind of glitch out every few seconds, but that went away after a short while[2023-12-19. : 7:20 am] Oh_Man -- VraelVrael shouted: with AI generation (or even impersonation), I think you can ask yourself "What am I taking away from the source author?" And if the answer is "nothing" then I don't see any problem, like making a SC map I really dont think Viggo Mortensen would ever care true, all right yall unleash the AI voices[2023-12-19. : 7:19 am] Oh_Man -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Any tips on how to eliminate a high frequency whining noise from PC? I just built a new one after my old one exploded and this noise is driving me nuts. I don't mind the whirring fan noise, but this high frequency noise is terrible sounds like coil whine, try disconnecting the GPU temporarily to confirm[2023-12-18. : 1:48 pm] Ultraviolet -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Ultraviolet It's not an easy problem to fix and likely requires you to replace the component that's the culprit. First step would be to identify the part that's producing the whining. Then maybe we can have more specific advice. But usually it's just a frequency response of some chip on a component, so maybe it's feasible to install a magnetic filter, or decrease clock rate or something but usually there's nothing you can do. Yeah, my research showed the same It's hard to pinpoint, I'm thinking it's either the hard drive or CPU but I don't have any good evidence to support either of those claims. It seems to be intermittent, not sure if that helps diagnose it or not. I've never noticed it happen when I'm just in the BIOS, which is kind of what made me think maybe it was the hard drive since usually when Windows boots is when I first notice it[2023-12-17. : 4:31 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Any tips on how to eliminate a high frequency whining noise from PC? It's a difficult topic where I can see arguments for both sides and have no clear idea how to deal with this fairly. Of course it's no 1:1 copy so current copyright doesn't apply, but the ease with which you can create content makes it clear original artists need some form of protection, both to save them and art in the long term.[2023-12-11. : 6:06 pm] Vrael -- and as of today they dont owe you a dime for anything their AI generates in your style, unless you can win that battle in court[2023-12-11. : 6:05 pm] Vrael -- so like if you're a comic strip author and OpenAI or whoever just stole all your comic strips and now their model can reproduce things in your style, you never gave them permission to do that[2023-12-11. : 6:04 pm] Vrael -- ultimately I think there will be some kind of "Fair Use" guidelines for AI just like fair use for comedy and stuff, but maybe the bigger problem is that the people training the AI have unfairly scraped millions of websites to compile these datasets they use[2023-12-11. : 6:01 pm] Vrael -- now, if Lucasfilm gets an AI-scan clone of Viggo that they use to generate millions of dollars somehow, then I think Viggo is going to care quite a lot[2023-12-11. : 6:01 pm] Vrael -- with AI generation (or even impersonation), I think you can ask yourself "What am I taking away from the source author?" When you get into the realm of using AI to do it.. it seems even worse to me, but I'm not sure why [2023-12-08. : 8:38 pm] Zoan -- and tbh no, this is exactly the type of thing ai should be used for. Now if you were monetizing it, I would say you should emohasize you used ai for the voicelines[2023-12-08. : 2:24 pm] Oh_Man -- but if i want to make a LOTR map and use AI generation to give aragorn etc more voice lines am I now suddenly crossing a line? wen did we get so snowflakey |
