zsnakezz -- AFTER windows 7
[2016-10-13. : 9:00 pm]
zsnakezz -- windows had 2 new operating systems within the next 4 years
[2016-10-13. : 8:59 pm]
zsnakezz -- maybe for VISTA
[2016-10-13. : 8:59 pm]
Dem0n -- Okay like 7 or 8
[2016-10-13. : 8:59 pm]
Dem0n -- It's been like 10 years man
[2016-10-13. : 8:59 pm]
zsnakezz -- win 7 should of been the standard os for at least 5 years
[2016-10-13. : 8:58 pm]
zsnakezz -- i personally like windows 10, but there is definitely a reason they basically had to shove it down people's throats
[2016-10-13. : 8:58 pm]
zsnakezz -- they litterally took no time pumping out other operating systems and forcing compatibility issues on themselves
[2016-10-13. : 8:57 pm]
zsnakezz -- win 7 isn't that old
[2016-10-13. : 8:49 pm]
NudeRaider -- Wing Zero
Wing Zero shouted: NudeRaider It just feels well rounded imo. Plus I really like the fact that my wallpapers are synced between PCs
I think I know what you mean. After trying Win 8.1 for a while I switched back to Windows 7 and feel right "back at home" again, without being able to really put my finger on it.
[2016-10-13. : 8:43 pm]
Wing Zero -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Wing Zero nice in what way?
It just feels well rounded imo. Plus I really like the fact that my wallpapers are synced between PCs
[2016-10-13. : 8:37 pm]
NudeRaider -- Well I don't intend to talk it down, if it works for you. The flaws are well known, so no need to reiterate. But personally I haven't noticed anything that would compel me to upgrade, so I'm asking for your reasons. Can you name any?
[2016-10-13. : 8:37 pm]
jjf28 -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: there's literally nothing wrong with W10 lmao
well there's the anal probe
[2016-10-13. : 8:32 pm]
Dem0n -- Like there a few things here and there that bug me but nothing to make me not use it
[2016-10-13. : 8:32 pm]
Dem0n -- there's literally nothing wrong with W10 lmao
[2016-10-13. : 8:30 pm]
NudeRaider -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Wing Zero nice in what way?
this was literally the reason of me asking. Because I can offhand name a couple things where Windows 10 ISN'T nice. So there must be things to compensate for. I'd like to know these.
[2016-10-13. : 8:25 pm]
NudeRaider -- Roy
Roy shouted: The technical reason is a maintenance one: 7 is old and doesn't support many things like new CPU instructions. Microsoft isn't spending money and development time into updating it for obvious reasons, and software developers aren't putting in the investment to maintain compatibility on old platforms either. They could use old standards that are compatible with older operating systems, but then they wouldn't be delivering a product that makes full use of the hardware. Alternatively, they could maintain separate builds (which many companies do), but this significantly increases development costs.
that's actually the burden of the hardware manufacturers. They'd have to make sure that their new features are compatible with the expectations of Legacy OSes. This is supported by MS's announcement that they will (fully) support Skylakes on Windows 7 only for a grace period. So why would Microsoft care about that? Not a technical reason, but a strategic one: If they force Windows 10 on newer hardware they give system sellers - who would likely want to stay on Windows 7 or 8 as long as possible - two options: Stay on a legacy OS but can't offer new hardware or upgrade both. Many will choose the latter, even though the would like to stay on the older OS, because the new hardware capapilities are desired. This is especially true for Laptops where every new CPU generation brings significant power savings.

NudeRaider -- Wing Zero
Wing Zero shouted: NudeRaider Win 10 is really nice imo
nice in what way?
[2016-10-13. : 7:39 pm]
Lanthanide -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: "Obama is the founder of ISIS" -- "You mean he created the vaccum...?" -- "No"; "Vote November 28th"
I think he heard that there were 28 days left until voting, and got it mixed up with the voting also being on Nov 8th
[2016-10-13. : 7:15 pm]
Wing Zero -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: why are you even using W10?
Win 10 is really nice imo

[2016-10-13. : 7:04 pm]
jjf28 -- compile-time optimized*
[2016-10-13. : 7:02 pm]
jjf28 -- we need some compile-time cross platform graphics up in here
[2016-10-13. : 5:52 pm]
Roy -- How important these issues are will ultimately be up to the type of software product, of course. Nothing I would write would have a reasonable excuse to not run on 7.
[2016-10-13. : 5:50 pm]
Roy -- The technical reason is a maintenance one: 7 is old and doesn't support many things like new CPU instructions. Microsoft isn't spending money and development time into updating it for obvious reasons, and software developers aren't putting in the investment to maintain compatibility on old platforms either. They could use old standards that are compatible with older operating systems, but then they wouldn't be delivering a product that makes full use of the hardware. [2016-10-13. : 4:44 pm]
Corbo -- same here
[2016-10-13. : 4:42 pm]
NudeRaider -- I'm pretty sure there's no actual technical reason.
[2016-10-13. : 4:41 pm]
Corbo -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Corbo you know the reason.

[2016-10-13. : 4:40 pm]

NudeRaider -- Corbo
Corbo shouted: Like, some of my modelling tools are built specifically for w10 now, for some reason.

[2016-10-13. : 4:38 pm]
Corbo -- Like, some of my modelling tools are built specifically for w10 now, for some reason.
[2016-10-13. : 4:37 pm]
Corbo -- A lot of the software I use decided to stop support for w7
[2016-10-13. : 4:24 pm]

[2016-10-13. : 3:48 pm]

[2016-10-13. : 3:48 pm]
Corbo -- w10 trying to be sneaky into me using IE.
[2016-10-13. : 3:48 pm]
Corbo -- Also, what's the point of having a task bar customizable if you're just going to add random junk for your user.
[2016-10-13. : 3:47 pm]
Corbo -- w10 sure picks the best times to make serious updates
