Finding out how to make good decisions can be hairy. It can be difficult to overcome doubt and make difficult choices. How do you do it?

Others recommend that you "go with your intuition", acting swiftly and instinctively.

Others suggest analytical approaches that might involve computation of the anticipated value of an option using numerically calculated probability and utilities.

In special situations, each of these methods could be appropriate. Each approach can be useful in certain situations.

It's unclear that our intuitive systems are well-tuned to be able to react to every day choices. On the other hand, extensive mathematical analysis is a bit overkill.

Create a memo for yourself. Write a memo to yourself. Tell yourself "Why is that the smart choice?"

In the Sieck & Yates studies, the researchers found that the writers were significantly less biased in their decision making as compared to the control group. The writers had a greater understanding of the decision problem and were less vulnerable to the subtle influences.

Experts were also more convinced that they had in reality made the right decisions. Writing can aid to make better choices and help you feel more secure when making important choices.
