LoL Season 11: Changes to the Ranked System
We should go ahead and begin by reviewing the recent changes to the ranking system before discussing the strategies and mentality. Riot Games has made some modifications to the League of Legends system. Although not as important as a dynamic queue it's still an improvement. It's the first significant change and everyone is happy about the news. Riot has eliminated promotions series that were played between divisions. For example, you no longer need to play a best of three series when you hit 100 LP in Gold 4. Your leftover LP will be carried across to the next division. You can get 20 LP of gold if you earn 25 points on Gold 4 or 95 LP. It's a horrible feeling to reach 99 LP and then find yourself playing a match with just one LP. Not only does it feel better, it helps players know their MMR. There's a huge distinction between the MMR and the actual position right now. Certain players are able to skip every promo series and inflate their MMR, without actually increasing in the rank.

For those of you who participated in ranked competition last year, Riot is deciding to reset players closer to their expected ranking. If you were a high platinum player the previous year, you will likely be placed in low-platinum instead of gold. This will mean less games to get back to the level you'd like to be. If you're on the same level as before, you won't have to play as many games as you'll already be on the same level. Because your final ranking is now more important it would have been good to know this prior to season 10.

Diamond Changes
This ranking change only applies to players who finish the season with the diamond. In League of Legends Season 10, you can get by playing a single game every 30 days to avoid the king of diamond. In Season 11, diamond will use the same system that master plus players use which is active days. In this new system, each game that you play will have seven active days that will reach a cap of 28. This means that in order to reach the maximum number of active days, you'll need to start by playing 4 ranked games. Learn more about this at handleveled.net When the LoL Season 11 Starts.

Players who want to get to D4 and then continue to cruise until the season's conclusion will require 4 games per month instead 1. With how easy it is to be demoted from an elo, it will be more difficult for players to maintain their Elo. This is a nice improvement that makes diamond feel like a real accomplishment.
