I accidentally locked my map, thinking it was finished. I was waaaaay wrong, and I was hoping, is there a way to get past the lock?

Well, if your asking for a link to an unprotector ur wrong here. They are forbidden on this site (check site -> FAQ -> The rules).

But if you are telling us what editor you used we may be able to find a backup.

What program did you use to lock it?

If you knew what memory allocations (in Hexedecimal) the program changed, then you could go back into the .chk file, and edit the .chk file back to how its "supposed" to look..

Why did you protect it in the first place?
Anyway, if you post your map, there is nothing preventing someone unprotecting your map and giving it back to you.

StarForge could never protect things as far as I knew. Although it might say that, there is always a way to 'unprotect' it. for future refference though, use like SCMDraft or something... much better than starforge

For the love of God...
Just because Hex Edit is just a little bit faster, doesn't mean it is 10,000x better.

AND NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT UNPROTECTORS THAT CAN ACTUALLY MAP WORTH A DAMN!

The guy wants an unprotector because he locked his map.
I can open it with SCMDraft, but not with Starforge. Starforge doesn't have very good protection capabilities.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
