Can't unprotect a map

Hi, I was just looking to play some Hero Sanctuary, so I joined one, but found that it was BT5 (which I already had) and my download started at 50%. When I went to open the map in the editor, I found that it was named twoemp (for The War of Emperium). I unprotected it, but it still wouldn't open. The date and time the map was added to my folder was 2:45 PM Jan 2. I have no idea how the host hosted the map as Hero Sanctuary but when I host it, it's war of emperium. I can't even open it in the editor, even with unprotecting. Check it out:

My map unprotector isn't working, either. Strange...

I've found some protections require the use of two unprotectors before you can use them. Usually OSMap2 + UU2 works for me.

TinyMap2 - Latest in map compression! ( 7/09/14 - New build! )
EUD Action Enabler - Lightweight EUD/EPD support! (ChaosLauncher/MPQDraft support!)
EUDDB - topic - Help out by adding your EUDs! Or Submit reference files in the References tab!
MapSketch - New image->map generator!
EUDTrig - topic - Quickly and easily convert offsets to EUDs! (extended players supported)
SC2 Map Texture Mask Importer/Exporter - Edit texture placement in an image editor!

I order you to forgive yourself!

I unprotected it for you. It was pretty fast.

Yeah this is a very annoying hack that someone is using (targeting a lot of HS games). The best way to prevent it is to not let the DL complete and tell the host to remake.

An even better way to prevent it is by downloading the map and never having to bother with it again.

Also, you used SMC 2.5 beta 3 for that unprotection. Strings got fawked, dood. 256 strings got overwritten and deleted.

In that order? If so, I'd be surprised because OSMAP2 is known to crash more than UU2. Then again, UU2 does weird things to the strings sometimes.

Maybe? Now that I think about it I think I use UU2 first.

That didn't work on this one. For some reason, always crashes OSMAP2.

NudeRaider -- blessed innocent soul knows nothing of the strife we had before EUDs were discovered :teehee:

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
[2026-6-20. : 3:47 pm]
NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
