A basic defense map is to make units by creating or buying, and then creating units every so often as levels or waves. Just play a plain defense map like sunken defense, and try to mimic it.

B.net needs good maps, not more crap sunken defenses. Try and think of new ways to do things, like using spells or special abilities or whatever, then make a defense map out of that.

Fwop this is true but,he is new at UMS so he wouldn't know how :P.

meme

I would suggest starting with the basics, and a defense map is a bit complex for a first map.
Go into StarEdit and read the help file for a start on mapmaking.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

My way into mapping was through editing maps. I took a map and changed a few things.

This way you dont have to understand everything that happens from the start but you will understand it soon enough.
Maybe this works for you too.

Or you can try making a madness map. The basics for those are very easy too.

How dare you say that my first map was a defense map :P.

Just play around with triggers. Create an open map. Make different locations and make them. Add triggers to create units at each location at around 10 second intervals. Now create triggers to tell them to attack.

Hmm... Yeah, this community really doesn't support new mappers very well. Though, here you might find what you need to get started. Myself and a few others have been working to develop the WarBoards community to be pro-new mappers. I would suggest coming back here for more advanced mapping though.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
