For the Autumn map contest, I made a map using an infested terran as a hero. The unit would have 2 main abilities:

1) Suicide - Suiciding will take you from one plane of existence to another. If you suicide in the Mortal Realm, you will be transported to the Event Horizon (underworld), and vice versa. If your suicide explosion happens to kill an enemy, that unit's soul would be 'dragged' with you into the underworld and stored in your soul collection.

2) Burrow - When burrowed, your dimensional transportation unit appears above you. This is an overlord that can be loaded with captured souls while you are in the underworld. Unburrowing will make the overlord vanish.

Equipped with these two abilities, you were supposed to go around doing evil deeds to draw out and corrupt various heroes. For example, you could drive a species of animal to extinction to cause an animal rights activist to seek revenge on you. In the ensuing battle, you would get the chance to add a hero unit to your soul collection. There were planned missions like killing a hero's family to get him to come for you and helping evil doers do their evil deeds (they'd sell their souls!). It was going to be an open RPG with an optional pvp area for players to use their captured souls against one another to see who could build a better team. Sorta like pokemon, except with souls and villainous acts.

However, since I started too late and spent too much time on frivolous things like terrain, I was unable to finish very much. I ended up scrapping all of the terrain anyway and going with a more linear approach. Now, with my graduate school starting up, I don't have the time to balance, test, and finish the map. So, I'm going to dump it here and let the masses decide if it's worth salvaging. I have not put my name on the map, and I don't want any credit for it. Feel free to steal the engine and build your own game around it. It's really none of my concern! If anything about it confuses you, feel free to ask about it.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
