SC2 Rumored to be delayed

Starcraft 2 is rumored to be pushed into being released in early 2010.

As much as I am looking forward to this game, I think it's more of a benefit for me. It leaves me time to save up to get a new computer, and it gives them more time to develop it so they can't have an excuse if it sucks.

There's a nice explanation/introduction video about Starcraft 2 unrelated to the delay at the bottom.

Been weeks since someone posted anything in the sc2 forums and when someone does it's bad news. I guess....like Echo said, this is a good thing. I guess

I'm not that upset to be honest. I'll be ready to buy it whenever it comes out and the longer it takes (I assume) the better the end product will be.

Not surprising at all. I still wouldn't be surprised for it to not be released until late 2010. Or even later, honestly; though I don't think that will happen. I'm not upset by this, either. College is going to take up a lot of time... so who needs SC2 until next summer, anyway. :P

Damn it, I wish it was delayed to like 2012. :| That's the next time I get a computer.

If Blizzard ever "delayed" SC2 like SC: Ghost, they'd all get murdered by Koreans.

Jul 30 2009, 6:12 pm KrayZee Post #7

I would not necessarily call it a delay if Blizzard repeatedly said "When it's ready" for release.

Something like that would definitely not happen to SC2 unless all of Blizzard blew up.

Yeah, the game can't really be delayed when they never announced a release date in the first place.

They are doing everything in their power to make it the next big E-Sport. SC2, some version of DotA, and Counter-Strike 2 will be the 3 competitive PC games of the future, I hope.

There were interviews claiming we may see it in late 2009. Not an exact date, sure, but they did set a time frame that they wanted to hit.

I'm also glad that SC2 is delayed because D3 is coming out after. I want to have enough of a buffer to buy a new computer to play enough of SC2, and then switch over to D3.

they also said it would come out around early december last year and sometime in 2007 I believe. It has been postponed, there might have not been an exact date but there was a certain time period where it was going to come out.

Where are your sources that's by a Blizzard official? Every time they were ever asked about a release date, they always said "When it's ready" and I never heard of a date. Unofficial sources such as GameStop, EB Games, GameSpot, IGN, GameInformer, etc. are not official. Sites such as GameStop only writes and predicts release dates for games just so they can receive money from pre-orders long before the game is ever released.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
[2026-6-20. : 6:15 pm]
Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
[2026-6-20. : 3:47 pm]
NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
