Anyone have a working anti-maphack method like crashing sprites and excluding EUD triggers?

If you're familiar with the vision kill trick, where a siege tank on high ground is put in a corner or somthin, and someone on lowground cant be seen unless they are maphacking, so then the tank kills the unit and then theres you'r map hack detection. then you can do whatever you want, center view on a crashing sprite or what have you

Toothfairy, that "trick" has always been flawed, as the maphack does not make the unit AIs see the units, just you, they won't attack if they can't see them.

ah, i've never been able to test that, but i've read it like everywhere

i suppose you could hide a crashing sprite above some place that they view often, and if they turn on their hack they can see it. but if you aren't hacking, its on undiscovered terrain.

Well what I'm asking is if there's a specific crashing sprite that will work. Apparently the newer maphacks have sprite crash prevention.

I'm testing it out right now, trying to find one that works, his latest patch to the hack said that he had to decrease something in the sprite protection, so I think that means that there's a hole somewhere..

Can't you just place a Cantina from Units>Neutral>Neutral or something, and place one of thosE? The weird scout lookin ones where no1 should have vision except for the map hackers?

you could just use basically any unit that crashes when disabled and place a disabled unit sprite of it somewhere, that way he cant just remove vision of sprites as they use the same image access as a regular unit, may i recommend a ghost with "use as cover" "flag 10" "disabled" "two states", now im not totally sure if anything besides disabled is doing anything but thats the settings i always use for em..

no. maphack blocks those from being drawn.

I'll try that but, can you or someone else confirm that it works?

Only the "draw as sprite" and "disabled" fields are actually used.

So would a ghost unit sprite with draw as sprite and disabled checked crash maphacks?

it crashes normal people, i dont have a maphack to check if it works in the specific way i believe the work around was implemented however.

It does not crash the hacks, I think you guys should test your theories before posting them, the sprite crash protection is very very well made, even invalid portrait crashes are blocked, it's pretty impressive, if you want to test them, get Zynastor's Map Hack from BW Hacks.

Draw as sprite unchecked.

Yes crashing on invalid frame is an easy fix, but it may be possible for another iscript opcode to crash the game on view, unless all the play frame ops converge to some draw image function. If that's the case, that means your hopes for crashing players using disabled units are crushed, and you'd have to resort to EUD or some other method.

So do you have a working sprite or method?

Does anyone have one?

The sword and the faith

Just to let you know Devilesk, Zynastor is very active right now. Any sprite method you come up with would be patched in a matter of days. If you want a method that's going to last longer than a week or two, I suggest trying something other than sprites.

Do you know of any other methods that exist?

Also, if someone does have one then it would be best if you PMed me instead rather than posting it publicly.

Or you could hand the map over for experimental compression/protection. ;o

Protection != preventing maphack

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
