Oh, even better! This'll work if you use 10HP and have a 2P game.
Use the player number of a burrowed Zergling to track a unit's HP. If it's only two human players, then 12 - 2 = 10 -- you can keep track of all values. Like, if the Zergling is P3, then there's 1HP, and so on, all the way up to P12 (10HP). Only trick is, you can't create units for P9, P10, or P11 -- but you can give them units. So you'd create a Zergling out of the way for P12, give it to the appropriate player, and move it under the unit whose HP is being tracked.
Of course, that would definitely limit you to two (human) players, and the remaining players would have to be allied with everyone. This presents another problem for P9, P10, and P11 (who always attack-move to enemies even though they can't attack, and would thus unburrow the Zerglings constantly), but if you use Lurkers, they might keep their units burrowed.\
...Or something.
EDIT: If you use the Lurker trick, you wouldn't have to set the computers' alliance statuses if you lowered the Lurker's attack power to 0. Regardless of that, though, you'd have to set the Lurkers to be Invincible, if the player(s) can use Missile Turrets, Comsat Stations, Science Vessels, or other Detectors.
