This is a really simple problem, and I am an experienced map maker, even though I've never actually finished a map... But anyway, my custom player colors aren't working, they're changing in the map editor, but when I go to test the map, it's just red. The default color I'm guessing. I haven't tried being other players yet. And I did check if randomize start locations was off. Could it just be a bug in the map? A one time thing so I can just restart?

Just a wild guess, but could it be the file extension?

To continue what Mahajarama started, extended player colors don't work in regular StarCraft (map.scm), so you'll need to save it as a Brood War map (map.scx). That's the most likely problem.

Thanks guys. Also, I think you can't even change the colors of players at all in .scx maps... Cause I tried just changing it to Blue and it didn't work.

You mean in .scm maps, correct?

You can change player colors if the map is saved as an expansion (.scx).

Be sure that you're testing the map with the new .scx extension, or else it would seem like it did nothing, because you're testing the wrong map.

Also, make sure you're litterally saving it as a broodwar .scx file and not just typing ".scx" into the file name.

Yeah, thanks everyone. Fixed now... I can't believe I didn't know that though... May lock now.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier

NudeRaider shouted: Symmetry I can't tell if it's relevant. You provided literally no context so I was providing an equally generic answer.
