Hi, what triggers can I use to do "moving locations". So for example, upon a unit dying somewhere on the map; how do I get this location to create a flag or something. I've seen this done on some maps but no idea how they pull this off. Any help is appreciated.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

It depends on your map requirements. The simplest way to accomplish this is if the player only owns one instance of the unit you want the location to follow:
Location Tracking
Players

  • Player 1
  • Conditions

  • Current Player commands exactly 1 Terran Marine
  • Actions

  • Move location 'p1' on Terran Marine owned by Current Player at 'Anywhere'
  • Preserve Trigger

  • Creating Flag
    Players

  • Player 1
  • Conditions

  • Current Player commands exactly 0 Terran Marine
  • Actions

  • Create 1 Flag at 'p1' for Current Player

  • If your player owns multiple units that you want to track, things become more complicated. You can keep locations tracking certain units with Location IDs, depending on the unit's size and movement speed.

If you need something that specifically moves the location onto a dying unit, you can look at the Duplicating Marines concept map. Combined with Super Hyper Triggers, this should work at a 100% success rate, as opposed to the 50% success rate with regular hyper triggers.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
