Giving units spells from other races or unused tech

Anyone have any insight/experience with what works and doesn't work when attempting to give units spells/techs that belong to other races or even the unused techs. Like for instance I tried giving a hydra the ability of stimpack. I modified the move button to be that of stimpack with slapped a different icon. It shows in game but when I attempt to use the ability it does not trigger. I made sure that stimpack tech can be used by all races and made sure its conditions for use were set to always. All of this being done with EUD through the magic that is EUD editor.

Is it that the game code is such a way that stimpack only works on terran infantry and any amount of modifying memory can not change this or is it that I missed something. Along the same lines I gave hydras a button to use one of the unused techs (unused tech 35 I think), is there any way to actually make this tech have the same effect of an existing tech with EUD. Really just want stimpack on hyrdas, or say emp shockwave on a dragoon etc..
I was successfully able to give the hydra optical flare and it works flawlessly so why not stimpacks.

Presumably you can modify dat requirements with EUDs, so make sure you added a case for Hydralisks to be able to use stimpack. In firegraft it looks like this:


You said you were able to give them Optical Flare so in theory there's no reason for the same steps to not work with the Hydralisk. I don't know what you mean by using "always" as a use condition, presumably you're talking about the button setup? Make sure it looks identical to the original Stimpack button. Some screenshots of your work would help troubleshoot the issue further.

You can't use the unused tech entries without a lot of custom plugin code in 1.16.1. It's not accessible by EUDs, and not at all on versions past 1.16.1.

Thanks for clarifying unused techs. As far as always yes thats what I mean. I tried setting it to always(my firegraft is different from yours) and I tried with what you have in your screen both with same nonworking result. Did you test out that your hydra was actually able to stimpack btw?

**Got it working thanks for the feedback, but any other known nuances anyone is aware of on the subject please post them here.

Glad you were able to get it working. What was the solution?

Regarding nuances, I'm not really sure how EUDs interact with dat requirements compared to traditional modding, so I don't think I can help you much there. There are definitely others on this forum that use them frequently, so maybe one of them can chime in with some resources.

I just set it back to default then did it how you have it with the "or unit is hydralisk" condition at the end. I guess it needs the full condition list possibly the is hero and enabled first condition. Also I found out that you cant do "Use technology + Stimpack" for the buttons action and value, it has to be Stimpack and stim packs respectively.

For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
