Random Hero Arena
Defeat your enemies aboard the barren space station known as "The Arena."

Hello Everyone,

I have finally completed my map. It is a mix of a golem map with elements from Poker Defense and those Korean random unit defenses. I am not good at writting descriptions but I have got a lot of positive reviews from my testers.

Objectives:

Required
- Destroy your enemies Missile Turrets

Optional
- Complete quest

Features -

- 20+ Heroes and some hiddens ones
- 5+ quest
- 3 super abilities
- 5 levels of "golem" spawn units
- Singe player mode (Player 1 only)


Changes v1.2b:

- Sprites removed in 'b' beta version as more fixes will be made
- More balance changes
- Increased health of missile turret by 200
- Removed one Ghost V from bunker and added a "Super Marine"
- Increased armor of A heroes
- Fixed bug where player 3 observer wasn't immune to damage
- At map start up 50 Ghost are created to speed up the game at start

Changes v1.1:

- Minor balance fixes
- Visual updates
- High terrain under hero spawn to increase chance of survival at spawn time
- Changes to solo play

Sounds interesting. How does a singleplayer mode work in this? I wouldn't think that the Brood War AI would really work for a map of this type.

Hi Scoularis,

Singe player mode is more like a zombie style map where enemies constantly spawn and attack your base. It was originally added so I could test out units and balancing but turned out to be quite fun. So if no other players are present ghost start spawning in the middle every 30 seconds and attack your base. I haven't beat it yet. Fun to try and survive for as long as you can though..

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
