Transmission I think. If you mess around with the sound editor in scm draft II you can find out which it is. I'll do that, one sec.

I don't have any trasmission triggers or play WAV triggers :(

sound\misc\Trescue.wav is the sound file. Sound occurs when something is rescued. Do you have a player set to rescuable?

by the way hi, it's integral from TL.

Hi! No rescuable players, but I think I figured it out. It happens when you try to give a lot of order commands to many units at once inside a really short timeframe (say 10 trigger cycles). I guess it's some kind of protection against overloading the pathfinder.

Weird, never heard of a sound playing from giving too many orders. Orders are pretty nasty in terms of coding by the way, there is an order limit and you can actually block input from human players by issuing a ton of orders. Maybe that's why there's a sound.

I see you !

Could just as well be a buffer overflow in the command queue...

It turned out to be a glitch in the map itself. Even without any triggers this still happens.

Ok, so to confirm I'm not going crazy somebody please test this out. I made a brand new map in scmdraft, no triggers or anything and the issue still happens tho admittedly after 2-3 minutes instead of 15 seconds.

https://github.com/AlexanderDzhoganov/scx/blob/master/empty_map.scx?raw=true
https://github.com/AlexanderDzhoganov/scx/blob/master/map_glitched.scx?raw=true

Here are links to both my first glitched map and the new one I made that I can also reproduce the issue on.

EDIT: Okay what the fuck (you're allowed to swear here I hope) I just started an old UMS map I played a week ago without issue and have the same problem on it. Reinstalling the game and will report back.

I played a map_glitched.scx in multiplayer for 3 minutes and nothing bad happened for me  (Win 7, SC 1.18).

Some.

sounds like it must be your local install.

Current project: Star Rogue
Other projects: Triumvirate Defense, Skirmish Islands

Confirmed. After reinstall the issue seems to be gone. It seems the latest patch from a few days ago messed something up for me.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
