They killed it :(

Here's what I have:

This list assumes that graphical fixes will be included in the next patch. Gameplay changes are not intended to be added to this list.

Bugs
  • Allocated memory for in-game HUD is not released when user leaves the game
  • Buffer overflow when storing too many future game actions during a replay
  • Sometimes, maps do not automatically begin downloading
  • Users playing with French or Belgian keyboard layouts must hold Shift in order to access numbers for selecting hotkeys
  • CPU throttling has no effect in the Battle.net login screen

Exploits
  • Buffer overflow when client attempts to write a long game name to a buffer(occurs when user clicks on a game in the game list)
  • Hackers can force Battle.net to IP ban other users by spamming join game packets, which causes other users to automatically send /astat for every packet
  • Hackers could steal CD keys because CD key hashes are sent in CLS2 packet 0x40, and the hash is easily brute forced because it's only 4 bytes long
  • acks could drop other players in-game by sending a game action packet only to that player, causing the player's client to execute the action and have a different game hash than everyone else. Could be fixed by verifying that everyone else has received the packet

Small Feature Requests
  • Lower the built-in Battle.net latency to the equivalent of the built-in LAN latency
  • Option to disable Windows keys in-game
  • Automatically save all replays without overwriting previous replay
  • Option to change mouse speed only for StarCraft
  • Increase amount of recent maps in the dropdown dialog when hosting maps

Big Feature Requests
  • Utilize UDP hole punching so that users are not required to open port 6112 UDP
  • Utilize UPnP
  • Option for windowed mode
  • Remove unit/bullet/sprite limits
  • Support Unicode text
  • Improve map transfer speed
  • Support .mp3 or .ogg files for custom maps

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

Why would they take down your topic?

What happened?

This post really needs attention!

At least they could release the source code (or any official support to custom dat files, grp or ai)

Wait.. blizzard is going to update starcraft: BW?

They are working on a patch at the moment. But it will likely only fix bugs to make it run smoothly on newer OSes.

I agree with "Users playing with French or Belgian keyboard layouts must hold Shift in order to access numbers for selecting hotkeys" (I'm french).

Also, another bug I currently have (StarCraft on Windows 10 with some compatibility settings) is that when an animated portrait must be played for a briefing, Starcraft once go back to the desktop, and must be alt-tabbed back in.
By "once" I mean if later you load another mission/map, it won't do it again until you exit the game.
Weird stuff.

NimoStar -- And Pathfinding in SC1 was not *that* bad, the problem is that it was designed as a flat 2D game like WC1 (and it was in the alpha) and then switched to isometric without changing the base code. So its actually a flat game pretending to be isometric. With the custom competitive maps that use larger ramps and elevation, pathfinding is quite fixed.

NimoStar -- The unlocking and map choice was fine, but mostly in WoL - In HoTS the worst of all units are irrelevant because Kerrigan has infinite summon and stuff. And even in WoL the spaceship instakill map powers are better than units. If I could RTS in my RTS that'd be great.

Nekron shouted: NudeRaider not that the og sc1 campaigns are particularly good mechanically but cmon, SC2 map mechanics are the opposite of fun
There's many parts to it. I think the raw rts gameplay of sc1 is unsurpassed to this day. And I too never liked that sc2 missions always rush you in some way or another, because I like to take my time. However I still have to admit that they way they did it often was always pretty cool. Like lava rising and receding, a huge-ass mothership destroying bases, undead coming at night, just to name a few, those are definitely creative, so I'm sure there's people that liked it. But that's not even what I meant. It's the unlocking of new features and upgrades and choice which map to play next that made it so much more motivating for me.

Nekron -- like the train maps, enemies just kind of come at you (I'm not sure if there is a real enemy base, there might be one just on a technicality - you are to never interact with its production) and then you gotta chase trains for lulz
[2026-3-05. : 6:48 pm]
Nekron -- and even in WoL imo everything ends up feeling like you're just getting a lot of hidden timers that kind of force you into awkward resource management between main objective and defending your base against enemies from beyond this world
[2026-3-05. : 6:47 pm]
Nekron -- some ideas were okay in WoL but the further you go the worse it gets
