Hypothetically let's say an eccentric person came up and paid you for making SC1 maps. How much do you think he'd offer you and how much would you personally want.

None.

Just here for the pie

He'd offer $0 because there's no way to monetize maps (except maybe sponsoring, like putting a McDonald's carrier blimp that flies around?) and I'd want $0 because it's something I did solely out of passion and not for glory.

I would commit a set number of hours a weekend to production. Probably 6 to 12, in total, 30 to 40 dollars a weekend depending on productivity.

Would ask for direct team chat conferences weekly.

Somebody with extra money and time on their hands who wanted a set of maps made for them could afford this.

I made the following maps; Hyperion 2, The Undead, The Undead Coop, Realm Rpg beta, and Overlords.

I order you to forgive yourself!

I'm up for negotiations. :apos:

Master has given Dobby a doctorate! Dobby is free!

Should this be in Null?

Anyway, I would do it for about $5 a day (negotiations welcome), more if they demand the map be done faster than my full time job would comfortably allow. Considering I work 4 10-hour days per week, the majority of the work would be done on Friday and the weekend, so if this style is fine with them... Shared files for documentation is a must, though I'd prefer direct chat over, say, teamspeak like zsnake.

This person would likely not want to pay anything at all, considering the game is old, there likely won't be a sizable fan base or revenue source to offset any production expense. However, this person was advertised as eccentric. They may also just want a new map, or want a map produced to their exact design. So I can't say for sure how much one would be willing to pay for such a service.

Edit: anyone who was around during the glory days of SCI likely has a job now, or is in college. Either way, they won't be able to devote nearly as much time to a map as they used to be able to. Just a thought regarding mapping productivity clashing with real life.

wth is starcraft

You could try to use Patreon for this sort of thing - but I don't think you'd make a whole lot of money. I have trouble believing one person would fund extravagantly enough to make it a worthy proposition, and finding several would be an uphill battle. That being said, even MLP fanfic gets funded through Patreon, so...

MLP has a fanbase. As depressing as that is, it's true.

SC:BW mapping is more niche than ponies. Time to kill yourselves, boys.

Vrael shouted: wasnt even that really, they 6000 apm just made the terran army so much more value/$ that the extra economy didnt matter
Well yes and no. The apm made him win the battle, but I'm not convinced a pro player can't account for that. He got caught with his pants down so it's not really representative of a prepared player. And the extra economy absolutely would've mattered if that push didn't almost immediately end the game.

NudeRaider shouted: Oh_Man nothing too special tbh. the human player wasn't ready to combat the push that stretched almost the whole map. So this game means nothing. We'll have to see how it goes once the humans have adjusted for its unorthodox strategies.
they basically lost most of their army in one big battle and didn't have the time and production to leverage the economic advantage and come back from that blow.

not sure why you are so hyped, when basically the same happened 7 years ago with AlphaStar on SC2.
