I just tried brood war again (the first time since getting windows 7 along with a ISP switch from Comcast to Brighthouse). There's exactly one game being hosted when i list "Show All".

(The sudden color distortion is also new...but inside bnet it seems okay.)

It's monday night, 9:30 EDT, so is bnet dead? or is something wrong with my computer or internet? It may also have something to do with the fact that I didn't instal SC, I just put in the CD and ran the .exe that migrated over on my Harddrive.

None.

It's not completely dead yet. You can still get a full house if you host the right games, which, unfortunately, are all dumb games that only 12 year olds enjoy. You should definitely be seeing more than one game under "Show All." At the very least, there are usually a few bot-hosted games that occupy the list.

Cartography Artisan

7-11pm CST always has a fair number of games, HLS has full privs most nights (clan aura), UGL still thrives in op euro(, not dead, but it'll keep creepin' that way and will certainly seem like it during slower hours.

Try ChaosLauncher. StarCraft was not built for Windows 7 or modern day resolutions for that matter.

I noticed you didn't mention what server you're joining. You want to be on USEast.

No problem, I specifically thought of it because I've had the same thing happen :P

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
