Does anyone play Casual Games anymore?

I'm curious just how popular or not casual games are to the average person. Like puzzle or arcade games, or many facebook games, things that don't have a lot of background/story/depth but are just a series of levels to beat/survive---maybe even riddle games?

An example would be this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlU1OcWDd8A
Looks like the perfect stereotypical casual game yet it only has 10 downloads. Are casual games dead?

As for me, I do play them, but it's kinda half and half between those things and more in-depth games (read: big name games like Starcraft or Play Station).

None.

Just here for the pie

People still play casual games, but the standard has risen. Say all you want about games like Candy Crush, they're highly polished. The game in the video you linked has terrible production values; many larger companies have moved in on the casual market and increased the quality standard way beyond that. If anything, this has attracted more people to the casual gaming market than the "hardcore" gaming market, you just don't hear discussion about casual games because they aren't games that are made for discussion.

Thigh high affectionado

FILTHY CASUALS.

In all seriousness though. I might play a flash game or something that isn't as 'hardcore' as the usual games I play. This might include anywhere from Newgrounds or Armor Games' lineup, or very rarely Bejeweled on Facebox.

Who remembers Bejeweled? :awesome:

Sure I didn't pop off on SCBW like I wanted to, but I won VRChat. Map maker for life.

Personally, I don't. But I think many people do, including some of the people I know.

I have less and less time to game as the years pass, and I simply cannot keep up in a competitive game with other players who have more free time and dedication than I do.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
